Still Can't Get My Heart Right

The next morning, Lisa doesn't expect to wake up in her bed with a splitting headache, let alone to a buzzing phone she forgot to put on silent last night. She turns, fighting with her covers and blindly reaching for her phone on the nightstand.

If Jisoo thinks it's acceptable to text her this early to scream about something or another someone that Jennie Kim did, she might quit her job as her best friend.

Were they even best friends? Lisa thought of her that way, yes, and Jisoo certainly was one of her oldest friends. But Jisoo also had Yeri.

People always seem to end up having someone other than Lisa.

She hears Minnie grumble in her sleep and the sound of shifting sheets. She groans softly.

She groans again when her hand keeps failing to meet her phone -who's now silent, the bastard- lifting herself up on her forearms before finally locating it laying under one of her books, right beside a post-it with a heart scribbled on it.

She barely has the time to smile about it, when she notices the message flashing on her phone's screen.

It's not Jisoo.

It's the opposite of Jisoo.

It's Chaeyoung.

She frowns down at it, blinking repeatedly in an effort to wash the sleep off of her eyes that made her see things that weren't in the realm of possibilities. When that doesn't work, she opens the text who really had no business existing in her phone.

Unknow number (08.17): hey, it's Chaeyoung, hope u dont mind I got ur number off Jennie.

Lisa squints and reads it all again, but the message doesn't change. She wonders what are the probabilities that this was all a headache induced hallucination.

Hope you don't mind, the message reads, and Lisa doesn't know what to do with that.

Because Lisa sort of minds.

She sorts of minds a lot.

But it's been three years and she should really be over it -really be over her. So, she answers with an 'of course not' and a smiley face she hopes doesn't come off as too passive-aggressive.

Chaeyoung (08.31): for a sec i thought you'd just leave me on read forever.

And even the thought of Lisa ever ignoring Chaeyoung is absurd because she could never be indifferent to her. No matter how angry she still is at Chaeyoung. She could think about doing it, of course, but never actually do it.

Lisa (08.31): I'd never do that.

Chaeyoung (08.33): yeah, u are way too nice still.

Chaeyoung (08.33): was wondering if u wanted to hang later.

Lisa has to blink twice at her phone to actually believe what's she's seeing.

She wonders, for a second, if Chaeyoung was still drunk from yesterday.

She wonders, for that same second, if someone had slipped alcohol in her cup, too, because she's actually considering answering yes. Her phone buzzes in her hands again, and nope, not drunk, not a dream.

Chaeyoung (08.37): u there?

Lisa (08.37): sorry I'm a bit hungover

A big lie. She hadn't been drunk last night. A little bit on Chaeyoung, though.

Lisa (08.37): where do you want to meet?

Chaeyoung (08.38): dw i'll come pick u up

Lisa should probably be worried, or at least weirded out, that Chaeyoung knows where she lives. But maybe she probably knows because of Jennie. Or Jisoo. Or Yeri.
