dear someone,

i never thought when i took this new job i would be picking up shifts at all locations around the city besides my home spot, but here i was walking into yet another store, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to help. i had arrived early to get settled in and learn my required tasks. striding to the swinging door that leads to behind the counter, my eyes found their way to you. i couldn't seem to tear them away, entranced by your friendly appearance. you gave me an inviting smile and waved to come on back, followed by an introduction to yourself and the other, more experienced employees already working. you directed me in a basic tour to where items can be found, i followed your pointed finger to each shelf but your soft voice drowned out any of the useful information you were feeding me. i snapped out of my head and nodded, then began to work where i was needed.

a few hours in, we were chatting and getting along swell. being a newer worker, you were open to helping and answering questions i had had without giving me grief. once the other employees began to taper off as their shifts came to an end, it was down to the two of us. trading off, helping customers in a roundabout circle. at one point i was able to return to my original tasks, i got into a groove of things, until my flow was interrupted a short while later because i had trouble finding a required item. you noticed i had circled the same shelf about ten times before pointing right where i was standing, but walking over and grabbing it for me anyways. i did a 180 to face you while reaching for it as you're handing it to me. i looked up and our eyes met, time stopped and earth was no longer spinning. your eyes were this deep chocolate color with a slight hazel near the pupil. just your general brown eyes but i could stare into them all day. we stayed locked for what felt like a solid 30 minutes, but in reality was at most 30 seconds. then we carried on the rest of this shift, with no awkwardness surrounding what just happened.

time came and went too fast. 7 hours can fly by when they're with the right people. we had just merely met but something about you had me hooked and i had to get to know you. the overnight staff entered and we bid our goodbyes. a part of me felt like something was missing on my drive home. things really can change in the blink of an eye. till next time.

sincerely, me
