y/n pov:
I stood in front of the mirror, pulling my curly hair into two buns, the style went well with my sweater with a checkered collar and my matching skirt. I also had some knees high stockings and some mary janes.
It was my first day at Hogwarts and I wanted to make a statement. I wasn't sure what statement but damn did this outfit scream it. It was my first time going to a public school; I've been privately tutored in magic since I was younger than eight years old.
Only last year had I convinced my single mother to let me go to Hogwarts. Was it the passionate speech about my emotional development or the screaming match afterwards when she insisted it wasn't necessary. For the hundredth (and final!) time.
I twirled my wand in my hand, smirking at myself in the mirror.
Fifth year here I come.

It was the first day of school , I was eating dinner while Hermione and Ron bickered beside. I was spacing out, staring at my food, thinking over things when Dumbledore's voice brought me out of it.
"Students, I must make a few announcements now, before off you trot to your beds, fed and watered. First, there is a new student at Hogwarts! Y/n Kadyn!"
Would it be cliché for me to think she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen? Because that's what I thought.
The confidence she carried herself with drew me in, the look in her eyes that screamed reserved excitement, like she didn't want others to see her true self. But I saw. And what I saw was mesmerizing.
She sat down at the stool and put the hat on; the same hat that looked so big on the heads of eleven year olds, just looked normal on her. No, not normal, she somehow managed to make the hat look better. Maybe it was the straight posture, the proud set of her shoulders. I couldn't stop staring.
"Slytherin!" The hat yelled out, and my shoulders slumped. A Slytherin? Weren't all Slytherin's evil, though. I couldn't imagine this perfect girl in the same boat as Draco, or Pansy, or... Well, those were really the only Slytherins that antagonized me on a daily basis. I couldn't imagine her like them.
I went back to my food, my thoughts on her.

y/n pov:
When the hat called out Slytherin, I felt like everything was falling into place. It felt like home, what I imagined home would feel like.
This castle was going to be so important for me. It was where I would make new friends, enemies, connections... lovers.
I gracefully stood up and handed the hat to Professor Mcgonagall, my skirt swishing around my thighs as I walked to the Slytherin table.
There was a spot open, between a handsome dark-skinned boy and a thin pale boy with a flop of brown hair. They were beckoning towards the seat, I gladly took it.
The boy to my right introduced himself first. "I'm Blaise Zabini." He was drop dead gorgeous, with cheekbones to die for and a winning smile. He offered his hand which I took.
"I'm Theodore Nott." This boy was thin and reedy, even through his robes I could tell he needed a few more meals. He had serious brown eyes and floppy hair that was the complete opposite of his body. He didn't offer his hand, but I could tell it was just the kind of person he was.
"Nice to meet you both, my name's y/n Kadyn." They shared a look.
"Like the shut-in pureblood family?" Blaise asked. I could tell this was the reason they had me sit with them. My family was notorious in the 17th century magical community for basically being crazy bitches.
This was the time of the salem witch trials, when white muggle men were going absolutely hysterical at the idea that women could posses any kind of power. Many of my female ancestors were burned to death, meanwhile my male ancestors were happy to sit back and let their wives and daughters and sisters take the blame.
Eventually, the women had enough of it, and regardless of the statute of secrecy, preformed a ritual that cast a curse upon the family, making it to where the men died after serving their purpose.
Basically after making babies.
I smirked, and that was enough to confirm.
Blaise whistled lowly. "Damn, what an icon."
Considering what his mother was known for, I wasn't surprised that he was impressed.
I smiled and changed the subject.

After y/n was sorted, Dumbledore cleared his throat and introduced this years' newest Defense teacher, who was dressed entirely in pink and looked distinctly like a toad.
I listened with dawning irritation as she gave some bullshit speech which basically implied that she didn't believe shit about Voldemort coming back. I blinked hard, trying to get my eye to stop twitching.
Nobody believed me, other than the Order of the Phoenix and my friends. The Wizarding World didn't believe me. Even now Seamus Finnegan was sending dirty looks my way.
I ignored the pink toad and my classmate and stared at y/n. I don't know why I was so taken with her, I just was.
Maybe she would believe me.
