Third person P.O.V
Lucas woke up the morning after. He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and opened them, only to notice Maya laying there, wrapped in his arms. He couldn't help but smile. She looked so peaceful when she was asleep. Even though he had sex with Maya - which meant he cheated on Riley - he didn't mind much. He was planning on breaking up with Riley, but he had decided against it after he started working on the project with Maya. Truth was, he liked her a lot more then he liked to believe. He knew that Maya would never return his feelings. But Maya... She was everything he couldn't have. She was danger, she was unpredictable, and he liked that. He wanted that.
He looked at her. One arm was sticking out from the covers. He reached over and closed his eyes, slowly running his fingers up and down her arm. He stopped mid-arm, feeling a small, horizontal scar. He frowned slightly and opened his eyes, propping himself up on his elbow. He leaned over to look at her arm and saw many, many scars. Most of the scars were a pale pink, meaning they were old. It made Lucas' heart rate slow down a little, but he still couldn't believe it.
Before he could do anything, Maya mumbled sleepily. Lucas couldn't quite make out the words she was saying.
"What?" He said quietly, in case she wasn't really awake.
"They're old." Was all she said. Lucas got out of bed and slipped on his boxers. He got back into bed.
"Close your eyes." Maya said. Lucas did what he was told. He felt Maya get up, then get back in bed with him. He opened his eyes and saw that she was wearing his shirt. He smiled a bit.
"As I was saying, they're old scars. Don't worry about me." Maya said, finger-combing through her hair. She cleared her throat, trying to get her morning voice to go away, without success. "We all have our scars, cowboy."
"I know." Lucas said, looking down at his arm. Maya followed his glance and noticed many round, small scars along his arm.
"Drugs?" Maya asked. Lucas nodded. He didn't hate drugs for any reason. He mostly feared relapsing.
They didn't need to explain anything to each other, because they understood one-another. Maya scooted over to Lucas and he wrapped his arms around her. She sighed and ran her fingers lightly on his stomach. A few minutes later, she heard Lucas' stomach grumble. She chuckled and sat up.
"Let's get dressed. We can go grab breakfast." Maya said. Lucas and Maya got up and got dressed. They both made their way downstairs and ate breakfast before making their way outside. Lucas drove them to school. The ride was silent. Neither attempted to break the silence.
Once Lucas parked the car and switched off the ignition, he slowly pulled out the keys. He leaned back against his seat, waiting for Maya to get out first. She didn't.
"What are you waiting for?" He asked. Maya looked over at him, observing him for a second. She turned her head back forward and unbuckled her seat belt before getting out of the car. Lucas frowned and followed her out.
"Hey! Wait up." He said. Maya only walked faster, trying to get away from him as fast as possible. Did she really do what she thought she did? Worst part was, she liked it. And she likes the idea of Riley suffering because of it.
"It meant nothing. It was just sex, now let me go to my locker." She said. The bell rang and she walked even faster. She didn't bother to check if Lucas was still following her. She made her way to her locker and opened it, glancing to the right. Lucas was leaning against the locker next to hers.
"You can't do that, Maya."
"Do what?"
"You know what I'm talking about." He had raised his voice and people had started to stare. He leaned a bit closer to Maya and lowered his voice. "We both know you're just trying to push me away before it happens again and I become some sort of rebound to you. I know you were sad, but-"
"Shut up." Maya started. "You're the one who went along with it." Was all she said before shutting her locker and walking away. Lucas stared blankly ahead. She was right. He did give in to the temptation and didn't try to stop her. Truth was, he needed it too.
"Can I help you?" Farkle asked from behind. Lucas snapped out of his thoughts and turned around. Farkle was standing there, looking at Lucas as if he was trying to figure out what to do. Lucas looked towards his locker and saw Riley there, and she waved him over.
"Sorry, man. I gotta go." Lucas said. He started walking towards Riley but Farkle stopped him, putting his palm against Lucas' chest.
"You're not going anywhere. We're not done here."
"But my girlfriend is waiting for me."
"Which one? Your popular, bitchy and ditzy girlfriend or your secret girlfriend you've been banging for who knows how long?" He asked, stepping towards Lucas. Even if Farkle was a head smaller, he could go crazy when he wanted to. Everyone knew how he got when it came to Maya or the rest of his friends.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Lucas said. He backed away and his back hit a locker, Farkle stopped moving, his hand still on Lucas' chest. The smaller boy glared at him and smashed his fist in the locker, dangerously close to Lucas' head. His eyes widened slightly. Everyone in the hallway was starting to gather in a circle around the two boys, visibly excited by the idea of a fist fight.
"Listen, man. I don't want any trouble..." Lucas tried to reason.
"You're having sex with her."
"I'm not!" Lucas shouted. Farkle replied by punching him straight in the jaw. Lucas fell to the floor. Maya quickly ran over, kneeling down next to Lucas. "What the hell, Farkle?!" Maya shouted.
"And that's all I needed to know what really happened." Farkle said quietly. He looked at Maya, his eyes clearly stating that he couldn't believe it. Before she could say anything, Farkle left. The crowd barely seemed to understand what had just happened until Riley stepped forward to pull Lucas up to his feet, only to slap him.
"We're over." She said. Riley looked over at Maya. "Congratulations. He's all yours now!" Riley said before running off. Her group of friend ran after her and the crowd moved away, already finding it boring. Lucas looked at Maya, holding his left cheek where Riley's hand had left a mark. Maya looked him in the eye, trying to understand what he made of the situation. She could only understand one thing. Both of them had clearly screwed up everything they had going.
