My stepdad is always saying I can't have coconut because it is a nut. Oh I forgot to mention that I am allergic to nuts, well I am. And no matter how many times I tell him, he won't believe me. It's so frustrating. So today I finally had the genius idea to look it up. I don't know why I have never looked it up before. Anywho, here is what it said.
Coconut is not a botanical nut; it is classified as a fruit, even though the Food and Drug Administration recognizes coconut as a tree nut. While allergic reactions to coconut have been documented, most people who are allergic to tree nuts can safely eat coconut.
So if anyone tells you that coconut is a nut tell them a shorter version of this and then slap them in the face for being stupid. JK don't slap people in the face.
