Dedicated to my brother-in-law B3NxDETTA

So, after more than one year of absence, I had the urge to try writing something again. Work and study was piling up on me and family matters are now weighing up on me since I'm now nearing the age when I should actually try to learn to be a mature, working adult and, someday, be a husband and father too. Just because I like to write family genre stories doesn't mean that I will definitely be a good husband and father...since reality and fiction is vastly different.

--Bene's PoV--

Red...

It's the first thing that greets me, right after an undoubtedly long period of nothingness.

Sometimes I don't care anymore with everything that appears before my eyes.

Pure White, Hollow Black, or Bloody Red, nothing can actually make me cower.

For I have witnessed each and every of it, so much that I can't actually remember when and where.

...Though, this red...why don't I feel the familiar coldness that usually accompany it?

No, it is nothing near the shivering frigidness...This one clearly has a streak of tingling, a bit annoyingly warm sensation.

Slowly, but surely, I try to retaliate over the sensation, but before I could even make one move...no...correction...after I made one move, the red lights are gone.

Instead, a blinding shed of light starts to obscure my vision momentarily, and as I proceed to close my eyes, the redness comes back.

Oh, so it is just the sunlight, eh?

Registering the blinding light, I immediately open my eyes just slightly with my face scrunched, just to avoid the annoying soreness that courses into my eye, and finally confirm myself that I am, in fact, lying on something not hard, but not actually soft either.

It's just enough for me to enjoy staying and laying down without any care of the world.

Not like the world even care anyway...at least not today...

...Though this light...recognized by me as the sunlight...starts to annoy me little by little, so I have no choice but to get up and positioned myself in a sitting position.

I quickly feel the cool breeze that passed my uncovered bare skin, while at the same time, holding a blanket over the majority of my body, in an attempt to cover up.

Well, I think you know what could probably happen last night if you saw me in this state, so please don't ask about it.

Well, especially not after registering on who beside me is. Having the same state of undress, I could see him rustle and open his eyes, directly seeing onto mine.

"You're up, Benedetta." He said in a low, soothing voice that lacked any tone of hostility, accompanied by a sliver of smile that is nothing special.

At least, not if it was not coming from him.

I normally won't even care to even pass down an answer. But that rare smile of his, and his serene gaze on me,

and the state we both are in,

it jolted out all the memories about what happened all these years. How we started out cold, pure, and flawless, against the world of taint and ruthlessness. How the friction of two blocks of ice defined our relationship on the start, when everything fell apart and had to be rebuilt, when the ice finally thawed.

And when the cold slowly transformed into something warmer and warmer and finally we knew how much we have changed after the years.

Heat has defined our relationship on our latter part of it. While it couldn't spread far further than our proximity, it was already large enough for both of us.

Especially when the heat reached its peak last night. Don't ask me the details.

And thus, only for him, only in front of him, I can give my heartfelt reply. Just a simple warm smile, mimicking what he was doing, and that was enough.

He seemed to be fond of it though, and our eyes hadn't left each other's gaze as it slowly thawed the coldness of morning breeze that still flows onto our naked bodies.

And it warmed even more when we, without thinking or asking for consent, just let our bodies do the talking as we finally formed an embrace, and our lips met each other in a long, warm kiss, which actually built up a burning sensation on my entire body, which might actually lead to something more pleasant...

...if not for a certain reminder that has been latched onto my head since the wake.

"As much as I want to continue, my love, we both know that we still have a lot more to do for today. We can't waste too much time."

"I know, but that really can wait, can't it? I really..."

"Please, sir xPect, I know what you wanted. But both of us knew that this is as important as how our life went onto the line like in the past. I know you can wait just until tonight, right?

"Ah, you're right." the man beside me reformed his smile and planted a quick peck on my lips. "We have a lot to do today."

"And a lot more as time flies." I replied. "But the conditions are better than the years that had passed. We know we can do this right, and Brody had also been willing to help too. We know we can make a change for the better for the asylum."

"And that's why I really love you." the man laughed. "I like your positivity. It's just like a hidden gem. Who had ever known that the ever-stoic Alecto-wielding assassin here has a hidden yearning for life, just like most people do?"

"Stop it, you're embarrassing me." I rolled my eyes. Is this the same dark, shadowy xPect that I encountered many years ago?

Well, that's what a long period of time can do to you...anyway.

"Anyway, with everything getting better, we shouldn't let the chance pass away then." xPect added. "Let's prepare ourselves for a new day."

"Yup, for a new dawn."

We prepared ourselves for the day.

We knew how everything went up and down for us these years, we knew we have changed a lot, especially our bonds. And everything seems like it's going to a better direction, but no one can ensure that for the long way.

But, we knew we're ready for everything, we're ready to face the new Dawn together.

Sorry for the bad quality. xPect (B3NxDETTA)! It has been a year since I last wrote a fiction, and my skills seems to quickly dwindle. I'll try to write something better next time, and I hope you and the other readers enjoy it!
