Marie's p.o.v:
I awake panting like crazy and gripping the blanket like I'm clinging for life. I feel an arm wrap around my side, and I immediately turn and burrow into them. "Marie," whispers a familiar voice, but it's not beside me. . .it's above. I look up to find Randies face inches from mine.
Randie cuckles, then flicks on the light and backs up. Carter slowly rises and rubs his face with one hand. "Now what the?. . ." he says, exhausted. Finally, Randie can't take it anymore, and he starts laughing hysterically. "Y-you should've seen yourself C-Carter!," Randie howls. Carter stands from the bed and walks over to Randie.
"What happened Randie?," he asks. Randie shakes his head, still laughing. Carter grabs Randies shirt and shoves him onto the bed, making him land beside me. Randie flashes me a quick smile, then looks at Carter.
"Fine, fine I'll tell you," Randie says. "I walked through the front door to find two salad bowls in the sink. I was curious, so I came into your room," he smiles, "to find your arm around Maries waist and her pressed up against you."
Carter thinks about this for a minute, then snaps his fingers and points at Randie. "I know what you're thinking," Carter says.
"Hey," Randie says, "at least you clothed her after."
"That is not even close to what happened."
Randie's p.o.v:I raise an eyebrow at my little brother. Carter looks at Marie, then back at me. "Let's discuss this downstairs," Carter growls. "Marie needs to sleep." I shrug and move toward the door. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Carter hug Marie and whisper something into her ear, then pull the covers over her.
"Come on," Carter says, yanking my arm. He pulls me quickly down the stairs and sits me down on the couch. "Look," Carter says, "what you're thinking. . .it's not the right thought. A little while ago, Marie got a call from her dad, who's been abusing her for years. I didn't allow her to leave because I didn't want him touching her."
"I got ointment onto her scars and bandaged her, gave her food and a place to sleep."
"With you," I say, pointing at him.
"Shut up," he says. "We were completely separate, until she woke up from a nightmare. So I wrapped my arm around her to comfort her, and we fell asleep like that."
I frown. "So you guys didn't-"
"No!"
I'm about to say something, when we hear Marie scream. Carter jumps up immediately and races up the stairs. I'm only a few steps behind him.
