Marinette can't relax. Usually Tikki tells her stories of past ladybugs and fiascos she's been in, but she was exhausted, and Marinette didn't want to keep her up.

So she does the only other thing that helps her sleep. She climbs up onto her balcony and watches the Paris skyline. She's never understood what she did to get so lucky, but she's definitely grateful. It might be exhausting to be Ladybug, but at least she knows she's helping humanity. It's enough for her. For now.

She has freedom, which is something she knows many people don't have. Namely Adrien.

Putting her massive crush on him behind, she does actually feel bad for him as a person. He doesn't deserve all the horrible things he gets. He might be rich and famous, but Marinette can see he wants a lot more than that.

"Hey."

Marinette totally panics and sends a flying kick at the stranger who's magically appeared. Her Ladybug is definitely showing, especially when she notices the person has disappeared over the balcony. Maybe she should have waited to see who the person was, so she could get them locked up for preying on an innocent girl.

"Whoa, sorry, Marinette. I didn't mean to scare you." Chat? Chat Noir?

Oh, I'm going to kill that pesky cat.

"Never do that again," Marinette says, half hitting his arm. "I thought you were a predator!"

"You're much stronger than you look." Chat grumbles.

"Sorry," Marinette winces. "Are you okay?"

"Peachy. I only fell seven stories."

"That's alright the-seven stories?" Marinette seriously needs to work on controlling her strength. Even though most of it comes from her suit, some of the strength he receives as Ladybug seeps into her every day bing.

"It's alright, my stick broke my fall." Chat laughs.

"What are you doing here anyway? I don't see any Akuma alerts."

"I actually don't know. Ladybug was supposed to go on a patrol with me, but she bailed."

That was why Marinette couldn't sleep. That feeling of restlessness? She had forgotten a whole patrol! Why didn't Tikki tell her? She couldn't keep missing the patrols, but she also didn't have the time.

Chat Noir and I really are opposites. He has all the time in the world, and I never have enough. Marinette thought.

"I'm sure she had a good reason. But I'm sorry anyway."

"I'm sure too. Anyway, any supervillains falling in love with you recently?"

Marinette spluttered. "Don't even. It feels like everyone but him sees the good in me. Even Nino."

"I remember Nino having a crush on you," Chat Noir says. When he realises that only Adrien would remember that, it's much too late.

"You do?"

"I remember hearing about it, I mean." Marinette's not convinced. But at least she has some company. It's early hours of the morning when Chat finally goes home, and Marinette barely makes it to her bed before falling into a peaceful sleep.

Err, this is really short...

I haven't written in so long, so I assumed this should be a good way to get back into writing my novels 😭
