The bell rang signaling the end of class and beginning of lunch. I start putting my stuff away and soon my table is swarmed with people. Everyone beginning to greet me and start chatting amongst each other.
"What're you eating, Chan?" I give a fake smile at whoever asked me.
"I was going to take a look to see what's in the cafeteria. Do you guys want to come along?" I say to him and the group of girls surrounding me.
"Yeah let's go!" One girl squealed while the others giggled behind her. I stood up and slung my bag over my shoulder, making my way out of the classroom. The girls followed close as I was surrounded by them, the guys just behind. I walked into the cafeteria and I could feel everyone's stares. I just put on a smile and found the table we all normally sat at. Everyone who was following me found a seat while making sure to leave one for me.
"Aren't you going to sit down?" One of the girls asked, batting her eyelashes at me. I internally felt disgusted, but just smiled in return.
"I was going to get a drink before getting something to eat."
"Oh, do you want me to come with you?" She batted her eyelashes even more, starting to annoy me.
"No, it's alright. I won't take long." I gave her a smile before walking off towards the cafeteria doors. Once I stepped past the doors my fake smile disappeared as I let out a sigh. The halls were mostly empty during this time. People would either go outside or into the cafeteria. I walked down the halls to find the nearest vending machine. Turning a corner, I see one with a few people around it and recognize one person. It was Felix.
"Did you see how cocky he looked?" One of the guys spoke.
"I know right! He was surrounded by so many girls, it disgusted me." Another spoke, making fake gagging noises.
"He's probably slept with all of them," A third spoke, rolling his eyes.
"Yeah, he's probably such a whore" The second guy spoke again.
I knew they were talking about me. It was obvious. Who else would they be talking about? I'm all what everyone talks about, whether is good or bad.
"I hate his attitude. He thinks he's so much better than us." The first guy scoffed. "So what if you have so many friends and girls flinging around you, it just proves how egotistical you are!"
"He's pathetic. I bet he cheats to get good grades and is spoiled by his parents." The third complained.
No matter how many times I hear it, it hurts. Felix didn't tell them he saw me crying, did he? They'd think worse of me. Weak and pathetic. I tired to remove the frown from my face but it didn't seem to be working.
Felix, who had been quiet the whole time spoke up, "But what if he isn't really like that?"
All of his friends turned to look at him with a shocked expression. "Did someone brainwash you or did you really lose your mind?"
"I-I mean, we don't know him personally... we don't really know what time of person he is."
"WHAT YOU THINK HE'S GOOD?!"
"What, no that's not what I'm saying,"
I didn't know those words would sting, but they did. I felt tears beginning to prick at my eyes, but I blinked them away.
"What I'm saying is, we don't know him. We can't just judge him based on what others say and our assumptions. Minho, how would you feel if we thought you started cheating just because we saw you with someone else? That other person could just be a friend or classmate or even a relative, but we wouldn't know that."
He's standing up for me...?
". . . you have a point, but why did you suddenly change your mind?" His friend, I assume Minho, asked.
"Yeah, you hated him the most." His other friend spoke.
Felix slightly frowned, "I... I-" He pauses seeing me and meets my eyes as his go wide. I try removing the frown from my face and change my expression to hide the hurt I was feeling earlier. "Chan?!"
All of his friends turn towards me, their faces morphing into a similar expression as his. They remained silent, quickly grabbing their drinks and leaving. I let out a sigh and go up to the vending machine getting mine.
"How much of that did you hear?" Startled by the voice behind me, I turned to find Felix had returned.
"Uh, from, Did you see how cocky he looked?"
"So you heard it all..." The boy looked away, some form of guilt appearing on his face. "I'm sorry,"
Confused at the boy's sudden apology I ask, "What for?"
"About what my friends said. I could see you were bothered by what they said."
My eye's slightly widened. How could he see that when I tired to hide it?
"How?"
"I'm just good at seeing people's emotions I guess, but it's really hard to read yours"
"But then how could you tell?"
"That's what I'm trying to figure out," He looked at me quizzically, slightly pursing his lips. I met his gaze feeling mixed emotions, mainly confusion. We realized we were staring at each other, so we both awkwardly look away.
"I-I should get going. My friends are probably wondering where I am," With that he scurried off.
I wasn't sure if it was just my imagination or if it was real, but I'm sure I saw him blush a little. It was probably just my imagination, because why would he blush?
