A New Lead

Chapter 2

"We must stay away from the manipulated people" Maddy's mother always said this to her every time. Maddy would think why always stay away? The world Maddy lived in was complicated, the world was build in where 30% of the population has some sort of power or what we call it dominion. It is also power but in a fancy name. We also have the power to talk to spirits that live among us. Maddy's world that she lived in was nice, but in her household wasn't that nice.

" Overthinking, what would I do without you?" Maddy thought to herself. Maddy sat in front of the window staring at the window, she felt like it was the only thing to calm her nerves. " Ms. Chain, can you stop staring at the window?" Her teacher was there standing at the side of her desk. " Oh, sorry Miss," Maddy said, she looked down to shame and hated to see the teacher's face. Maddy was too sensitive and always cared about others' opinions so she felt like a disgrace to the teacher. But only starring at a window is making her feel bad? Maddy has always thought of small things as being big things.

" Now can you look at me while apologizing?" The teacher sounded a little agitated, Maddy blinked out the tears and looked at the teacher's face. Maddy landed out a sniff and gushed out the words " Sorry" to her face. The teacher took a glance at her and walked back to the front. Students were snickering but the school was small and normally it was silent. School here is a bit tough. We all know that there exist the typical subjects a high school would have but there are two more subjects a dominion school has, DT as known as Dominion training and a subject that was banned for being too... no one knows. It was banned and no one knew why, so we have only one subject DT.

Maddy turned her way to the front board and looked closely. Her dominion pencil in her ear she left for DT today she took out her book. " Alright class let us go back to revision page 115," the teacher said. The students were scrolling through the pages, the class was very silent, all you can hear is the pages flipping through one by one that's what you have in such a disciplined school, just boringness. But the high school she went to was not a normal high school, it will say it is well discipline but in the hallways and anywhere a teacher wasn't there, students would unravel their true selves. Maddy was still the typical Maddy but she was well popular for drawing like some sort of teenage Picasso.

Words coming from the teacher's mouth had to be written down or be stuck in your head until the exam. But the bell shot out the loud sounds that were normal for the students to hear. Lunch. Want to talk about lunch? No! Why would we all know lunch is the best place to get smacked on your lunch tray or just pure trauma? " Hey Maddy!" a girl shouts from a table. Maddy looks up from her lunch to the direction of the yelling, " I guess she wants a new poem or picture of her boyfriend," Maddy sighed and walked over to the girl. Emma Elliott, the best friend of the most popular girl in school. Maddy sat next to her and took out her dominion pencil knowing she wanted something.

    Emma looked at her nails all colored with green and purple if you want to know what is Emma's dominion is Illusion. Her illusion gives her the power to make reality whatever she wants but it only for a short amount of time. She uses it to prank people and so that's why she is popular for all the tricks she's the cool one. Maddy dreams to be peaceful for once someday when she can relax and not overthink about her parents, her friends, and her job to protect the twins. "Maddy! I need you to draw out this gorgeous dress on my phone here. I have to dress to impress for prom!" she gushed.

    Maddy observed the picture closely and started drawing. Everyone was amazed at the lead coming out floating in the air, and at last, the dress revealed.  A greyish pink dress with lace and overskirt one over one. Let's just say a dress a celebrity could wear to the red carpet. "Thanks a bunch, Maddy!" Emma said showing her away out from the table, soon people started crowding around Maddy asking for things one by one. Maddy is weird, she has the dominion to have whatever she wanted but chose this life of pure anguish.

    "Okay people scram!" Ariel yelled, the students left but were still satisfied with what they got.  Maddy looked at Ariel, she smiled and looked again to the floor. Ariel held her shoulder, " Come on let's get to mine," Ariel said. Ariel as Maddy's best friend was the one that she has trusted for years, Ariel has made her feel like a different person near her and can feel a little bit like a kid again through the childhood she missed. " Okay, let's get the kids," Maddy said. Ariel ran toward her and started running to the exit, " Well who gets there last has to pay for ice cream!"Ariel yelled from the front. Maddy smiled and giggled, running toward Ariel as they get to the exit.

"I suggest that we walk next to the forest," Maddy said pointing in the direction of the woods. Ariel shivered and pushed her to the front, "No! Have you heard of the stories in the dark forest, some people say if you go there an evil spirit will eat you!" Ariel crossed her arms and pouted. "Well, I shall go myself INTO they woods!" Maddy confidently walked in front of the bushed and tried to not get pricked by the bushes trying to stop her from getting in. Ariel jumped, "Hey, wait up!" she yelled from behind.

Maddy walked in, the woods led an opening with two trees. The leaves glittered a bit, the grass was soft and Maddy wondered what it looked like deeper into the forest. Maddy walked through the opening and Ariel shouted again, "Wait! Don't you go there!". Maddy giggled and went deeper, sadly Ariel followed. In the middle of the forest, Maddy stood behind it and show such beauty of it. It looked like crystals were growing in the ground while the grass shined and the trees were a shade of lavender.

There stood a stone thing, Maddy didn't know what it was. The stone thing was holding another stone thing, it looked like an orb or sphere. Nothing glowed from those two. "Wow," Maddy said. Ariel was speechless, her mouth was wide open. Suddenly a noise appeared in the bushes, Ariel jumped but Maddy held her mouth shut and so did Ariel. The noise of the bushes again, "Let's go investigate," Maddy whispered. Ariel held her wrist, shaking her head saying it was a bad idea.  Maddy pulled out of the grasp and looked over the bushes, there stood a lovely garden with the spirits floating with happiness. A girl that looked their age stood there talking with the spirits, not as she could talk with them but playing with them.

The girl turned to the bush that Maddy and Ariel were hiding in and walked slowly to it, Maddy stepped back when a stick gave up the hiding spot. The girl opened the bush which scared the living deaths out of them. "Oh, hello," she said. She sounded so calm, she didn't even flinch. Maddy and Ariel stared blankly at her. " I'm sorry that we invaded your place," Ariel gushed waving her hands, The girl smiled, " No, don't think of it as a bad thing, I'm Irene Alyssa Hilton," she said as she bowed to them. Wait, it couldn't have been the actual Hilton, the girls looked at her in shock. " So you're a Hilton?!" Maddy cried out.
