The doors opened and a fresh breeze blew into Lucia's face. Her hand was still wrapped around Mick's, but she could feel her palm starting to get sweaty and her knees went slightly weak at the sight of the many people. They were all cheering, waving at them in the hope that they would wave back. And even though the crown on her head literally pointed out that she became their queen and Mick became their king, she felt really small and vulnerable. The sounds briefly faded out and she felt her heartrate quickening, for a moment she became nauseous and she swore she was about to let go of Mick and rush back inside to empty her stomach. But Mick's thumb brushed back and forth over the back of her hand and it drew her attention back to him, causing her to finally hear his voice as he had said her name a couple times already. "Lucia." Her eyes finally flickered up to his.
"Are you okay?" Mick asked and she couldn't understand how he looked so relaxed, how he could change his posture in a way that showed everyone that he was taking this like the king he became. "I'm okay," Lucia heard herself say. She spotted some droplets of sweat on his forehead and his hand felt just as warm and sticky as hers did, making her feel somewhat relieved that Mick wasn't totally able to hide his nerves. Guards down at the gates were doing their best to keep the people away from the castle doors and the bridges were quickly pulled up to prevent anyone from coming past the barriers. Royal trumpets sounded and the rowdy crowd slowly became calmer. So many eyes were looking up at them right now. The anthem of Geneva was played first before it went over into the anthem of Aosta. The people below them were singing along and the good atmosphere caused Lucia to calm down slightly.
A speaker stood beside them, the paper roll he had falling down to the floor, large inked letters on the paper as he held it. He cleared his throat. "Blessed people of Aosta and Geneva. We are here today to witness the coronation of Prince Mick and Princess Lucia. From today on, they will lead our kingdoms and protect us from any harm. Today marks the day that our borders are fading and we will become one!" Lucia looked up at Mick again, his hand was still wrapped around his, but he seemed to have relaxed a little as well. His bright eyes looked over the crowd, glistening with a gentle hint of pride that those were his people. She couldn't help but admire how much he looks like a king, a true king and it made the butterflies flutter around in her stomach. Mick seemed to notice her stare and he turned his head to look down at her, causing her heart to skip a beat. A small smile curled his lips and his other hand reached out to caress her cheek softly, before he dropped his hand to his side again.
The people were cheering and hugging when the ceremony came to an end and it was obvious that parties would erupt througout their kingdoms. The whole coronation had flown bye, while it had apparently taken an hour, but Lucia had no idea of the concept of time ever since this morning, a result of the stress and anxiety that had built up to this moment. Soldiers of the royal army were slowly and peacefully pushing the crowds back and away from the castle, making sure they would continue their festive events down town and not around the castle. To Mick and Lucia started another task. As the castle laid in the capital of the merged kingdoms, they would start a ride in the carriage with the horses this afternoon to greet everyone and accept their presents. Lucia felt exhausted already, especially as she hadn't slept well last night. As the doors of the balcony closed and the silence fell into the jewel room, she let out a deep sigh and felt how heavy her feet were with each step she took.
The nearly sleepless night made her think back of how Mick had been awake too, how they sat on the flange of the side of the castle that had broken off, watching the stars and the bright night sky together before moving back to bed. The moment where they had to hide from the guard and the moment when he kissed her was fresh in her memories and caused her to swallow hard, feeling her cheeks heating up already. Lucia sucked in a soft breath as she felt his hand gliding down her spine and back up. Mick's fingertips briefly wandered over her shoulder and brushed her hair down her back, making her smile at the affectionate gesture of his. "That wasn't as traumatic as I thought it would be," Mick spoke up while they walked back and it made her chuckle lightly. "The first moment was very scary, with everyone looking up at us," Lucia said, gnawing at her bottom lip, fiddling a bit with the ruffles of her dress. "Mick, I'm worried that they might not want me as their queen," Lucia suddenly stopped in her tracks.
