Ron had never been even slightly adept at hiding his emotions, and this time, it was no different. A mixture of betrayal, hurt, anger, and disbelief danced wildly in his eyes, in the lines of his face and the set of his mouth as he waited for George or you to respond. Funnily enough, this was not the way you'd planned on Ron finding out; you'd wanted to sit down with him, maybe with a large supply of his favorite sweets from Honeyduke's and wait for him to begin eating so that you could break the news while he was happily devouring sugar.

Fate and timing had never been on your side, though so of course it would happen this way. George's hand merely tightened around yours, even as you sublty tried to slip it from his grasp. Hermione looked...well, she certainly didn't look surprised, so at least you had that going for you. If anything, she was going to gloat to you later that she had been right and while you weren't terribly looking forward to that, you were far more concerned with the hurt look plastered across your best friend's face.

"Ron, it...George and I..." you started, stumbling over your words. Part of your uncertainty was due to being surprised by Ron's appearance, but a large part was the fact that you still were entirely uncertain of what George wanted to call whatever was going on between the two of you.

"Don't get your knickers in a twist, Ron," George told him genially. "What does it look like?" You could've slapped George as you watched Ron's face hardened as he spoke. Now was not the time to act so nonchalant about something Ron was clearly not okay with.

"It looks like you're playing games with her like you doing all the other girls you have a passing interest in," Ron snapped suddenly, nearly making you flinch with the quick way his voice jumped to such a sharp tone. "Just step away from her, yeah? Stop fucking bothering her and filling her head with shit like you do with all your other girls."

You couldn't stop the way your eyebrows rose, and Hermione's expression mirrored your own. You'd expected anger from Ron, of course, but you hadn't expected it to manifest like that. Like the only thing he was angry at was George potentially just using you like he seemed to use all the other girls he messed around with. There had been no doubt in your mind that Ron was going to explode at you and yell at you for going behind his back with his own brother.

This, though? This protective barrier, this anger only towards George? That came as a complete surprise to you, and by the looks of it and the way he stiffened, George as well.

"I'm not fucking using her, you giant fucking prat," he said sharply, glaring at his younger brother. "I-"

"I'm bloody serious, George. You fucking knock this off right now, or I'll deck you. I don't care that you're bigger than me," Ron threatened, his teeth gritting together as he looked at George with an expression you could only describe as complete conviction. "I'm not going to let you use her and then toss her to the side like you do with everyone else. I don't know what the hell has gotten into you that you think messing with her of all bloody people is okay, but I'll not stand for it."

Not that you would say so out loud, but Ron did sort of have a point. It had crossed your mind many times even during the past twenty minutes since George had told you he wanted to be with you- at least, you were pretty sure that was what had happened.
