"Promise"

First Person POV

[Hastumi Mei]

Kugisaki marched towards me, fists clenched and eyes locked on me. While I ran behind Toge to hide but since I was too tall compared to him, he did not fully cover me. Like at times like this, I just think that I wish I was small. I look stupid shrinking behind Toge just to hide.

Even though I half hid behind Toge, Kugisaki grabbed me with hrr hands and pulled me away from my partner. "Why did you tell us you were his cousin?!"

"That's something I don't want you to know or you'll ask." I shrugged as I rubbed the back of my neck. Smiling sheepishly at the woman who her nose was already fuming.

She growled then slapped me in the back of the head. I was thrown of the force of her opposition to me. As a result of the pain, I rubbed my head. I think I lost more braincells with that force.

"Sujiko." I turned around after being patted on the shoulder. Toge looked at me with a worried expression on his face. "Hmm.."

Toge opened his arms to say he wanted me to embrace him. So I walked over to him and then wrapped my arms around his waist while his arms were placed around my neck. I sigh as I feel the usual arms around me.

"Sorry..." He whispered in my ear. I was surprised by his sudden change of vocabulary but I tightened my grip on him then nuzzle my face against his neck. Sniffing the common scent, the one I always smell every day.

I sniffed this aroma which always calms or relaxes me whenever I am upset or something.

We let go of each other when someone coughed behind me. I was Panda. "Sorry for the interruption but I want you to attend the Kyoto Sister School Exchange."

I gave Panda-senpai a sidelong glance before slinging my arm over Toge's shoulder and leaning against him. I'm actually curious how Toge balances himself every time I lean on him. Dude, how strong are you?

"Kyoto Sister School Exchange?" The expression on Kugisaki's face and tone of voice indicated that she was puzzled.

Megumi discussed what was going on at this event and mentioned that it was mostly for 2nd and 3rd year students. And meanwhile I was facepalmed because when the first years agreed to participate in this contest I would be affected. Meaning, no bed, no sleep, and no rest.

"Why would we join if it is just for the second and third year student?" I asked. I had to make a way so I will not be included in the battle.

"Since some third-year scumbags have been expelled. We don't have enough participants, so you'll be the one to go." I took a deep breath before completely getting up, walking over to where Megumi and Kugisaki were standing. Still confused at the sudden offer.

"Is that an offer or are you ordering us." Megumi muttered under his breath.

I sat on the stairwell with my hands in my pockets. I watched them converse and instruct Kugisaki about what to do during the program.

"Mustard leaf?" Toge took a seat next to me. I shifted my attention away from them towards Toge. Smiling at him. "I'm just tired. Don't worry."

"Bonito flakes." He yanked my arm and turned my head to face him. I sat there watching him unzip the zipper on the clothes that covered his mouth.

"I heard you'd been hurt."

I smiled before I ruffled his hair before sliding it to his left cheek. Looking with appreciation at him. "Yeah..."

"Tuna mayo." He stroked his hands over my hair. We lingered like that for a few seconds before separating myself.I decided to tell him what happened about the Special grade that we fought days ago.

"A few days ago, we attacked a Special Grade. Then I shoved Itadori away because he was so close to that fugure, which was about to explode. Yet, he didn't hear me when I warned him." I sulk next to Toge. Hugging my legs to my chest.

"Right after I pushed him, the blast exploded and I was flung against a wall and hit my head. That's why I'm wearing this thing on my head right now." I made a gesture with my hand to my head, which was shrouded in gauze. " I kinda look bald in it."

I heard Toge laugh at my joke so I grinned and then continued my story.

Then I took a deep breath and slumped into my seat. "When I woke up yesterday I found out that he was gone."

"Come here." That's all I heard after I tell the story.

I gave him a brief glimpse before leaping on him and embracing him closely. "I don't want to lose people close to me again. I'm scared Gege..."

Toge nuzzled before sighing as if he was contented now. And then he hugged me tightly as if I was going to disappear. We stayed for a few hours like that before he removed his arms and looked me in the eyes.

"You will not lose me. I promise."

You can see the determination in his eyes when you look closely. I nodded, smiling because I knew nothing bad would happen today.
