01- Total Eclipse of the Heart

As the end of the day bell rings, I'm instantly relieved. I'm finally free to go home and do whatever the hell I want. Of course, that usually ends up being Netflix and texting, but at least I'm not here. I go through my end-of-the-day routine and walk out of the school. I take a deep breath of the fresh air and start walking in the direction towards my home.

I walk into my house, kick off my shoes, and lay down on the couch.

"Miles? Is that you?" I hear my mom shout from the kitchen. She's your typical, stay-at-home mom, constantly in the kitchen and handing out hugs.

"Yeah," I shout back, slightly annoyed. Who else could it be, walking through the previously locked door that only my family has a key to at the EXACT time I always get home. She works so hard she's oblivious to what's happening around her. It's kind of sad. It also doesn't help that she was diagnosed with Alzheimers 4 years ago. Sometimes she doesn't even remember who I am.

My phone buzzes and I pull it out of my pocket.

Jenna: Hey

Me: Hey

Jenna: Listen, we need to talk

I'm taken back by her sudden seriousness.

Me: About?

Jenna: Us.

I'm worried now. Why would she want to talk about us?

Jenna: I'm breaking up with you...

My heart drops. What? Why would she be breaking up with me?

Me: Is there someone else?

Jenna: No, things just aren't working out.

Me: THINGS ARE FINE! WHAT ISN'T WORKING FOR YOU?!

Jenna: I'm moving to Connecticut ;_;

I suddenly feel like a jerk for sending that last one in caps lock...

Me: Oh...

Jenna: I'm leaving Monday.

Me: But that's in two days! You can't leave in two days!

Jenna: I kinda have too... My dad is forcing me.

Me: Are you free tomorrow?

Jenna: Yeah, I think so. Why?

Me: I wanna take you on one last date.

Jenna: Fine with me

Me: Ttyl

Jenna: K bye
