Chapter 16: The preliminaries

Hinata's team had come in a couple of days ago. Right now though, the preliminaries were about to happen.

"First off, let me congratulate you on passing the second exam. Now though, we will be having preliminaries," The Sandaime announced.

"What!?" Temari yells.

"There are too many teams, but, if you would like to drop out, you may," The Sandaime says.

There were some murmurs until Kabuto raised his hand "You got me, I'm almost out of chakra," Kabuto says.

'Bullshit, you almost have full reserves,' Naruto thinks with a deadpan. He turns his attention back to the Sandaime and a sick-looking guy.

"Sandaime-Sama *cough* do you mind if I take over from here?" The man asks before going into a coughing fit. The Hokage nods and gestures him to continue "This will be the preliminaries, there are too many people so now we will begin the fights," The man says "I am Gekko Hayate, the proctor of the prelims. That board over there will determine the *cough* the matches."

'This dude looks like he can keel over at any minute,' Naruto thinks with a twitching eye. Naruto then focused his eyesight at the Jōnin Sensei of the sound team. It was so obviously Orochimaru, but he couldn't do anything or someone would get hurt. Sasuke had similar thoughts until the board flashed.

"Will everyone except Uchiha Sasuke and Akadō Yoroi leave please," Hayate says. Everyone leaves "Are both fighters ready?" Both of them nod "HAJIME!" Hayate says while bringing his hand down. Sasuke just knocks Yoroi out with a chop to the back of the neck "W-winner Uchiha Sasuke," Hayate says wide-eyed. Sasuke walks back with his black cloak still on.

"That was anticlimactic," Naruto says and Sasuke rolls his eyes.

"Well done, I guess," Sakura says and Sasuke chuckles. The screen flashes again and two more names appear. Here are the matchups and winners of the next few unimportant fights.

Shino vs Zaku- Tie (Since Zaku never got his arms broken by Sasuke, I think he would tie with Shino. It'll also make sense later)

Misumi vs Kankuro- Winner Kankuro

Sakura vs Ino- Winner Sakura, pretty easily. She just pushed Ino into a wall and she got fell unconscious.

Tenten vs Temari- Winner Temari.

"Damn, that's brutal," Naruto says with his arms crossed behind his cloak.

"Are all you troublesome blondes like that?" Shikamaru asks.

"Naruto definitely is," Sasuke says.

Shikamaru vs Kin- Winner Shikamaru

Two names flashed on the board and Naruto smirked.

"Will Inuzka Kiba and Senju Naruto please come down?" Hayate asks. Naruto Shunshin's to the battle area and Kiba walked.

"You're going down, Senju!" Kiba yells while pointing at Naruto.

"Hm, did you say something?" Naruto asks.

In the stands

"You have poisoned Naruto with your hip ways, Kakashi!" Gai yells while pointing at Kakashi.

"Hm, did you say something?" Kakashi asks while looking up from his book.

"Damn you and your hip ways, Kakashi!" Gai yells crying anime tears.

Back at the battle

"Are both fighters ready?" Hayate asks and they both nod "HAJIME!" Hayate says while bringing his hand down.
