"THIS IS GONNA BE MY YEAR," I whispered as I look up from the big building. Addison and I started making our way inside the building. Addison told me that this year, the zombies were going to attend school just like the rest of us. The school bell rang, indicating that it was time for us to go to our classrooms.
"Yeah, yeah," Bucky was mocking one of the zombies from the other side of the fence so I decided to scowl him. He gave me an eye roll, continuing to mock the zombie but he backed away in fear when the zombie came close to the barrier, "I'm so sorry about—"
"Do we need to take a trip downtown?" One of the officers on the other side said as she took hold of the zombie's shirt. I was about to say something when my twin sister called me out from inside the building, "Eve!"
"I'm coming!" I yelled at her, giving the zombies from the other side of the fence a small apologetic smile then heading off to run after Addison, who was with Bucky and his clique.
"I thought you would stay by my—" Addison started but I had interrupted her, "I know but someone was mocking one of the students from the other side of the fence and I just couldn't help it."
"Can't let those monsters change this town, cuz," Bucky stated, a smirk plastered on his face as students walked by and put out a pic of Bucky for him to sign. I rolled my eyes at them, why do they even look up to him?
"They're just going to school like us," Addison defended as I nod my head at her, agreeing.
"Like us?"
"People love me, okay?" Bucky started as I rolled my eyes once more, whispering, "Not me."
"Those freaks are nothing like us, they tried to eat our grandfather!" Bucky stated.
"It was just a small bite," Addison said as Bucky rolled his eyes.
"But what if they changed?" I said, trying to reason with him. But he only scoffed and let out a chuckle saying, "They will never change, Evelynn."
"Cheer tryouts today after school, everybody!" Bucky yelled. I let out a sigh, turning around to my sister with a frown. I just wish us and the zombies could finally get along and I bet when that day happens, I can finally lose this itchy wig and gloves.
"Go, bottom feeders!" A short girl with glasses, excitedly yell. But Bucky and his squad rolled their eyes at her and left, "Wait, you know, 'cause shrimp."
"The waste of the ocean at the bottom? No?" When no one took notice of her, she turned to Addison and me with a smile, "Hi, I'm Bree, and I've always dreamed of being on the cheer squad because I really want to be a flyer."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Addison," Addison introduced as she shook hands with her. I did a small wave not before saying, "I'm Evelynn."
"And we love cheer, too. Did you know the creator of the wave..."
"Was from Seabrook?" Both girls yell in unison as they started to walk away to class. I shake my head lightly at Addison for forgetting her job. I followed closely behind them to class when suddenly the alarm went off.
"Okay, I know this is scary, Bree, but there's a zombie safe room right there," Addison said, trying to calm Bree, "Yeah, don't you worry."
"It's gonna be okay," I smiled at her but she only ran off screaming, leaving both me and Addison confused. I was about to go get her when Addison said, "You should stay inside the safe room, I'll just go get her."
"But—" Addison gave me a stern look. I groan in annoyance at her and went my way to the safe room, muttering, "I'm the older twin yet I get to be bossed around by Addison."
"Zombie safe room secured." The room was dark, but you can see that it was filled with boxes of supplies. I was about to go further when I heard one of the boxes move. I hesitantly took hold of my gloves, getting ready to use my powers when someone said, "Hello?"
"Why, hello."
"Try anything and I assure you won't get out of this room in one piece," I warned, securely putting my gloves back as I slowly went to him when he apologized, "This just isn't how I was expecting my first day at a new school to go."
"You weren't expecting to be trapped in a zombie-safe room?" I asked as he answered, "Oh, no, that I expected."
"That happens to me all the time, It's sort of my thing," He stated as I nod, "To be honest, I didn't expect my first day would go like this either."
"So, am I getting out of this room in one piece or...?" He trailed off as I let out a small chuckle, saying, "Who knows?"
"Well, I hope not because today's a big day," He informed as I raised a brow at him, "How so?"
"I'm trying out for the football team," He said.
"Nice! My sister and I are gonna try out for the cheer squad," I said.
"That's a tough gig to get," He added as I agreed with him, "Yeah, I guess."
"My parents had me and Addison in cheer camp ever since we were kids, I love cheer and all but I don't think it's the right act for me," I sighed.
"My dad doesn't even think I'm gonna make the team," The guy stated.
"I'm sure you will! You just need someone to cheer for you," I said, finally facing the guy. I still couldn't see what the guy looked like but from his figure, I could say that he was pretty tall.
"Will you be the one to cheer for me?" He softly asked as I let out a smile, saying teasingly, "Maybe, maybe not."
"I'm Zed. What's your name?" He asked.
"It's Evelynn," I replied as the lights turned on, revealing the appearance of Zedd. I let out a shout, realizing he was a zombie, and accidentally punched his face. I could feel the temperature of the room getting cold, knowing I lost control over my powers for a bit.
