someone out there knew i was tonys daughter, and that i had elemental abilities. they also knew i had hidden powers, that could be unlocked with heavy negative emotions.
and to do that they'd almost killed two of my closest friends. we were obviously dealing with very smart, very dangerous people.

after these relevations, i called tony and bruce back into our room to tell them everything.
tonys face paled when i mentioned it had to be someone from the ten rings.

"thats impossible, i killed them all." he whispered.

"thats what we all thought, 7 years long. but someone knew you had a daughter with powers. that could only be the ten rings. they must have been plotting this plan for years." nat added grimly.

no one was laughing anymore. even thor had stopped drinking to focus on the situation.

"if this is the case, we must go after them at once." he declared loudly.
he put his hand on my shoulder. "payton, you have a good spirit. i will not let anyone use you, or hurt the spiderling and wanda."
i smiled at him. "thank you thor." it was a genuine statement. i loved all the people in this room, and i couldnt let anyone hurt them to get to me.

"well," tony said. he looked at me. "i guess we're going to afghanistan."

four hours later, all six of us were on a jet to the cave where tony was held, and ex-base of the ten rings.

"gulmira was close to where we're going, wasnt it?" i whispered quietly to my dad. i shouldnt have bothered. the others were all asleep.

"yeah i think so" he answered. only the two of us knew how important gulmira had been; yinsens home. the three of us had been stuck in that cave for months; we shared a bond because of that. yinsens death still hit both of us hard, even after all these years.

althought i had been only ten at the time, i could never forget his last words.
"dont waste it. dont waste your life."

shaking away the memories, i turned to tony, about to ask how long it would take.
he was fast asleep in the chair beside me. he looked peaceful, for the first time since all of this began.
i turned back to stare out the window. i could feel my eyelids closing.
the last thing i heard before i fell asleep, was tonys gentle snores beside me.
