My nose scrunched up and a groan erupted out of my mouth when my cell phone grabbed all my attention. I took out my phone from the pocket of my black jeans and my brows furrowed as I intently gazed at the name flashing on my phone screen.
"Oh, no~ why does she have to call right now?" I exclaimed with a sigh. Guess this was going to be tough.
I looked around as if I was waiting for someone to help me, but all I could do was sigh another time. The phone continued to ring and I rolled my eyes before finally receiving the call.
"Hello?" I let out soon after receiving the call, not wanting to sound annoyed. However, I failed miserably.
"Hello? Come back home now! I said N.O.W!" I could hear my mother yell from the other end of the call which made me pull my phone a little away from my ear with a scrunched face. I was annoyed but I invited this situation. How could she not yell when I chose not to listen to her plead?
Well, that was my mom. Most demanding at times, though I love her. It wasn't like we were bickering or getting on each other's nerves all the time. However, there was this one time when I chose to listen to my heart instead of my protective mother, which I'm used to doing.
"No, mom! Please listen to me, I'm about to meet him. If you didn't call right now, I was about to see him. Bad timing, mommy." I knew she would turn her ears deaf to my pleas like she did all the time, but I continued to console her with a taunt lingering in my voice.
I mean, how can one back out after choosing a tough path that was legit tough? Crossing oceans and countries for someone all alone with some savings I had and my little heart that would beat for someone was tough. But who would explain that to my over-protective mother?
"I know you love him, my child. But you won't be able to see him ever; the meeting is something very different. Please stop dreaming and come back home, my dear. I'm worried. That is not our country. You are in a completely different place. Are you listening to me? Hello? Jia?"
And she kept on blabbering, as usual, making me roll my eyes. How could she be so annoying when it comes to supporting me? I understand she was a mother who loved me dearly and so did I. But I loved him; I loved them as much as I loved her or my family.
I was looking around and admiring the beauty of this country with a silly smile on my face, completely ignoring the call; or maybe my mother as I was so done with her advice all the time.
A couple walked past me, holding hands, and I couldn't help but smile widely. Meanwhile, I saw a cute little puppy running as fast as Usain Bolt and it was approaching me.
"Oh, my God! It is so cute! But why does it look familiar?" I talked to myself, forgetting that my mother was still on the call.
I continued to glance at where the puppy was running and my insides squealed at how cute it was. Suddenly, I saw the cute fluffball approaching the road and my heart began thumping as if it would come out of my chest.
"Wait! Don't go that way. No~" I yelled as panic took over me. I threw my phone and bag and ran towards the puppy, who looked lost as he barked in the middle of the road. Maybe he was scared of what he got himself into.
I was successful in reaching him which made me finally heave a sigh of relief. I held him tightly in my arms and his fluffiness made me smile. I began to caress him and he began licking me as if I was his owner or maybe because I saved him. However, I couldn't realize that it was a crossing, with a green signal on.
Within a few seconds, a car approached me and I fell with the puppy, which I was holding very tight in my arms as if someone would take him away from me. In no time, the world turned dark as my head hit the road.
