Hey everyone, it's literally been years since I've written, and since I've been active on here posting, so I wanted to get my feet wet. Just playing with ideas, if y'all enjoy I'll post a few short stories I've been working on. Love and light,

I Didn't Promise You A Garden

Apartment shopping should've had time limits, especially the ones that required stairs, like some of the ones I'd seen today." I sighed into the phone.

Complaining didn't always heal or help, but it did feel good.
"I can come over with some massage oils, work my magic." Darren's voice trailed off suggestively.

I rolled my eyes, glad we weren't on a video call, and laughed. Partly because it would never happen between us, and because Darren tried every time we spoke.

"I told you Darren, I'm not interested in taking our friendship to the next level."

I know it sounded cold, but I was taught to not beat around the bush, especially with rejection.
If I didn't sound like you could push my boundary, I probably wouldn't be tried.

"But you haven't tried a relationship with me Mars, I can't just give up."

"Yes you can, if you want to keep a relationship with me. It's friendship or nothing, and I need a friend right now. Especially with my new job and all."

I could hear Darren sighing. "That's all you need? You don't see me and see more than a friend?"
What more could be expected by someone I had met at a random paint and sip I'd heard about in an email? I was wide eyed and hopeful after a statewide move, and looking forward to meeting new people when I met Darren. Not looking for anything less or anything more than a friend. He obviously had other plans.

"I'll talk to you later ok? I'm gonna go make some dinner."
I hung up before he could object anymore than he already had, and headed downstairs to find something to eat.

I had moved from my quaint little town of Ajax, Ontario, to the fast paced, big opportunity city of Houston, and I was trying to find my bearings. Before moving, I had discovered that my aunt had migrated here some years ago, and she had a room for me until I found my own place.

I had a job, a career actually, something to be proud of, now I just needed a place to call my own. I had just been  asked to take the role as group therapist at Star Behavioral Mental Health Centre.

I didn't know a better position for me, with me graduating from college about two months ago, also the name of the planets tying in with my spiritual connection. I was Mars, about to start working at Sun Health. It was almost too perfect.

I also had a car, a Hyundai Sonata named Nala, that could get me from point a to point b, so I was already starting off better than a large percent of people, and I knew how blessed I really was. Life hadn't always been so easy, so whenever I could, I took account of all my blessings, and shared the information to the masses.
