"Omg, I can't believe my 18th birthday is next week, I'm literally so excited!" I yell to my boyfriend Ethan, over the sound of the loud cafeteria at our high school. "You're gana love what I got you, babe!" Ethan replies back to me. I excitedly ask him what it is, as my mind races with all the possibilities. "I can't tell you babe. That defeats the whole purpose of the surprise!" He says. "Can I have a hint at least??" I ask. He sighs and smiles, then says "Okay fine. Its something you've wanted for like ever, but your parents won't get it for you. That's all I'm saying!". "Omg is it a car?!?" I ask, but then quickly change my answer. "WAIT NO, is it a puppy?!?" But as I think about it a little, I correct myself back to my original guess; a car. "Babe I said I'm not-"

My best friend Maddison sits at the lunch table with us, and interrupts Ethan. "Girl, you really think this broke ass mfker can afford to buy you a damn cAr?! He can barely afford his own, that's why his parents got it for him!" I give Maddison a look and say "He's not broke!" And at the exact same time, Ethan defends himself by saying "I'm not broke! It was a gift!". Maddison rolls her eyes and laughs. "Whatever helps you sleep at night, buddy" she says sarcastically.

"Anyways, what are you doing after school, chica?" Maddison asks me. "I'm hanging out with Ethan today, sorry!" I reply, at the exact same time that Ethan chimes in saying "She's hanging out with ME, sOrRyYy". Me and Ethan do that a lot- say things at the same time. We've been together since 6th grade, and we're in our senior year of high school now. We're basically the same person at this point. It's kinda scary sometimes, though. It's like he can read my mind or something. *shivers*

"Shut up Ethan, I wasn't even talking to you!" Maddison snaps. I roll my eyes and stand up. "I gata pee, I'll be right back. PlEase get along while I'm gone, it's seriously not that hard to do." I say, then walk away in the direction of the girls bathroom.

As soon as I'm out of hearing range, Maddison looks at Ethan. "Now that she's gone for a minute, I've been meaning to ask you something" Maddison says. "Uhm... what..?" Ethan asks suspiciously. "Calm your nerves schizo, I just wanted to know if you'd help me plan a surprise birthday party for Aniyah? We have less than a week to get everything together, and I can't do it alone. Plus, I know she'd want you to be involved.." Says Maddison, slightly annoyed. "That's a great idea, she's gana love it!!" Ethan replies excitedly. "Okay cool. Gimme your phone so I can put my number in it, and we can start planning that way" Maddison says. "Okay, lemme see yours too, so you have mine as well" Ethan replies as he hands Maddison his phone and she gives him hers. 

They both put their numbers in each other's phones, and as Ethan is about to give Maddison her phone back to her, he sees her taking a selfie with his phone. "What are you doing..?" He asks her. "Taking a pic for my contact, duh.." she replies with sass in her voice. "Oh. Uh, okay.." Ethan says hesitantly as they trade phones back.

"So where should we hold the party?" Ethan asks Maddison. "I was thinking someplace indoors, just incase the weather ends up being bad that day, so we won't have to switch everything up last minute." She replies. Ethan nods and says "Yeah that's actually a really good idea. So wha—" but Maddison interrupts him by saying "Shhh, she's coming back!". They both stop talking and awkwardly look at their phones, and act like they're doing something on them.

As I'm walking back into the cafeteria and towards our lunch table, I see Ethan and Maddison eagerly talking about something, which is really strange, because they basically hate each other... Once I get back to our table, I sit back down between Ethan and Maddison, where I was sitting before I got up.

"Ugh the line in there was crAzy! What were y'all talking about?" I ask them. "Finals" Ethan says, as Maddison says "The upcoming pep rally" over him. 'Clearly they're lying', I think to myself. 'I wonder what's up with that.... I'll just ask Ethan later, after school. I bet it's nothing too serious.' "Uh, I asked Ethan if he'd help me study for the finals after the pep rally" Maddison quickly says in attempt to cover up both of their lies. "Oh okay. I bet he wouldn't mind doing that, would you babe?" I ask Ethan. "Yeah, that's not a problem, I don't mind helping her" he replies as the bell rings for next period.

"Bye guys!" Maddison says as she leans in to hug me. "Bye, see you in 6th period" I reply, as I return the hug. "My least favorite subject. But at least I have you to keep me sane!" Maddison says, then walks away towards her next class. I turn to Ethan and put my arms around his neck. "Was everything okay when I was in the bathroom?" I ask him. "Yeah, everything was fine! I know you were kinda sketched out when you got back, but I promise you've got nothing to worry about" he reassures me, as he puts his arms around my waist. "I know babe, I trust you with my life, don't worry" I say, then get on my tiptoes to kiss him. "I hate to say this, but we seriously need to get to class" he says, as he brushes my hair out of my face and behind my ear. "Hey, no pda you two! Get to class before I write you up!" A teacher yells to us from across the cafeteria. "Sorry, we're going right now!" I yell back, blushing, as me and Ethan run out of the cafeteria together, and then to our separate classes.
