The lullabies I learned in the dark as I heard you sing,
I will never forget
You had a wild nature and it was as though she had tamed you;
When you held her hand, you were more tender than she
When you look at her face you'd smile very slightly
I never thought that I could see you this happy
And all those years where you would curse out at the sun;
At the moon or even the very earth that caressed your life
You were just as confused as she could be.
Maybe life will be fair,
Or it will be a different kind of the same thing;
But she will know these lullabies too
For in the dark I shall sing them
And they will be a reminder of you,
Of us and of everything we were.
A day shall come, when she too will sing lullabies
She could sing the same verses I carol to her
Or she could make new lyrics with new meaning
And that will be beautiful.
