I ran as quick as I can. My lungs were burning, my legs were sore but I have to keep going.
run.
"The shadows are coming, closer closer." An eerie feminine voice spoke, almost inaudible. "The shadows are coming, closer closer."
I wanted to scream back at her. But she was no where to be found. It was only me and them.
The predators and the prey.
No one was going to help me.
If I stop, I'm dead.
"Keep running!" I told myself. Panting, I kept my focus on the trail I was following. The glowing purplish light. He said it was the only way. The only way for me to go back home.
But then, the light vanished, and I came to a halt.
Darkness covers my vision.
No---
I was lost.
"Don't panic," I muttered between breath.
"Don't pan--" Before I could say it completely.
There was a howl.
An eerie blood draining howl.
"No!" I breathed.
I wanted to run but I couldn't get my eye sight to focus. It was too dark. I don't know where I need to go.
Which direction? Right or left?
Another howl. It was getting nearer.
And another.
And another.
The hair on my neck rose.
It's behind me.
Hesitantly, I bit my tongue.
I felt like my soul was thrown back into my body. My body unwelcomely thrust itself upward, making me fully awake. I was panting. Blood filled my mouth. I had bit my tongue, it was painful but at least I'm not in that horrible realm anymore.
Honestly, I didn't think it would work. But I had no other choice.
Mom used to tell me how to escape the nightmares. "Pinch yourself and those crazy nightmares won't disturb you anymore honey," She said.
She said pinch not biting-tongue-til-it-bleeds dummy. I flinched.
But it actually worked.
I'm Abelle Jarde and I'm that girl whom everyone thought was mute...but I'm not. I'm just a terrified 17 years old girl who's trying to survive my senior year and my nightmares.
...and I'm somehow cursed to be a shadowless.
but the shadows are constantly chasing me...
for my soul.
