You are my Everything

Maya sighs as she puts the phone down. This is really great opportunity for her, it's another step forward in her career and it's good for the station and her team as well. She just said yes without talking to Carina about it. She could have said no but who knows when another opportunity like this would be given to her again. She's going to have to bite the bullet and talk to Carina about this.The rest of the shift is relatively quiet, there was a small fire at a restaurant, but luckily no one was seriously injured. She texted Carina to let her know what time she will be home but she didn't receive an immediate response so she knew Carina was probably busy.

She was finishing a report when she heard a knock on her door "come in" she said and saw Andy walking in. "Hey Cap, you're alright" she asks dragging Vic in with her. Maya looks at Andy confused then at Vic "what's going on? Why are you dragging her in here?" Maya asks. 

"What's going on with you? You're distracted and you have the same worried look on your face while we were driving to the restaurant" Andy says. Maya sighs and closes her reports, she can finish it later. "Carina is going to kill me" she says not even bothering to hold back "Maya I swear if you did something stupid, I will kill you myself" Vic says both her and Andy immediately starting to worry. "No guys, relax. You two are too invested in this relationship and you're married" she says looking at Andy. Andy just shrugs "yeah but before Carina, we couldn't really use your name and relationship in the same sentence. I don't think you knew the definition of the word before Carina" Vic says laughing "so what's up, what's happening?" Andy asks. "The Academy called and they want me to give a few presentations and do training exercises with the recruits. I just said yes without thinking and now I have to go to Maryland for a week. I didn't even talk to Carina about it. I just kept thinking that this is so great for us and how we only had men training us and how we're one of the few stations with women. Then I started thinking about your dad and how proud he would be of all us and how we've grown, he always pushed us to be best firefighters but he wanted us to be great people, you know" she tells Vic and Andy. They look at her with smiles "Maya, Carina met when you were the Captain of the station. She knows how hard you've worked, she's not going to be mad that you didn't talk to her about going away. You've had to go out of State before. She would probably be pissed if you turned it down because this is an opportunity for you to encourage the women there and show them that they can do exactly what a man can do. For all the advances in our time, we still have to work twice as hard as any man. We're the only team in this station that have women" Andy says "and can I just say how proud we are of you that you're more worried about Carina than the actual presentations you need to prep" Vic says. 

She feels better after talking to Vic and Andy, she looks at her watch and she knows the next shift should already be in the station "thank you for listening to me and for helping" she says to them. They get up and leave her office, she packs up her stuff and puts the file in her bag that she never finished, she can do it while she waits for Carina to come home.

She hears Carina's key in the door "Maya" Carina calls out "in the kitchen babe". Carina walks into the kitchen "hi bella, how was your shift" she asks kissing Maya. Maya pulls her back and wraps her arms around Carina's waist "it was good. No major fires" she says picking Carina up and walking back to to the couch "I missed you so much" Maya says into her neck and Carina laughs "Maya please" Carina pulls away from Maya and she pouts at Carina. "I'm hungry Maya, what did make" Carina asks her "me too and I was trying to eat" Carina rolls her eyes "okay, I made your nonna's lasange. Not as good as you would or your nonna. Let's eat" Maya kisses her.The sit on the couch eating while Carina tells her about the patients she had today and her research she was looking over with Amelia. "I need to tell you something" Maya says and Carina looks at her with a frown "whatever it is bella, you can tell me" Carina says. "The academy called today, they want to me do a few presentations and training simulations with the recruits. I was so excited about it because when I was there, we never had female instructors or female captains for that matter come in. Everyone there was men. Andy and I were the only females in our class and we had to work so hard. I said I would do it. I'm so sorry, I didn't talk to you" Maya says. Carina lifts her chin so Maya is looking directly at her "Bella, I would never stand in the way of your career. I love that you a fire captain, I'm so proud you and everything you have achieved. I met you when you were already doing this. You save lives Maya and your team is one of the best in Seattle. I would never expect you not to go, you have to go, you have to show the new recruits that they can do and achieve what they want. I am so proud of you. This is the first time they're asking a female to come in" Carina asks. "Yes" Maya answers almost shyly. Carina grabs her phone and dials Amelia's number "what are you doing" Maya asks and Carina holds up her hand. "Hi, guess what happened, whose with you. Wait, I'm going to turn on my camera" Carina says into the phone. "Carina what happened, it's just Maggie and Meredith" Maya sees Amelia sitting around the table with Maggie and Meredith and she shakes her head "Maya just told me that the Academy called her and they want her to come in and present and do training simulations with the new recruits. She's the first female Captain ever to be asked to do this" Carina tells them. Maya sees them jump up and start dancing while shouting congratulations. "We're so proud of you Maya, congratulations. Seattle's youngest female Fire Captain and now you're going to be training as well. Carina did you call us to brag about her" Maggie asks "No, I called to tell you the good news okay and maybe to brag a little bit" Carina says excitedly. "She's been talking about Maya since she ran into the hospital with that damn nose, obviously she's bragging" Amelia tells Maggie laughing "Amelia" Carina shouts. "What is she talking about" Maya asks "oh Amelia told me this story" Maggie says "this is one with the bear, right. Amelia said you were inlove that moment because you remembered what Maya was wearing and you couldn't stop talking about her ass in those jeans" they hear Maggie say.
