You were pissed. Aggravated, irritated, frustrated... no amount of adjectives could define the pit in your stomach.
You had just discovered a loved one in your life wasn't worthy of your trust. Was it a friend? Lover? Family? No one could get it out of you, even when the circles under your eyes darkened. Only one person got a bit of information out of you - a persistent yet concerned blond by the name of Bakugo.
Whenever you'd ask him why he cared, however, he always worded his reasoning around, "It's not healthy to hold onto shit. They're shit for hurting you."
Bakugo accompanied you while you healed. He wasn't a crutch, and didn't pull you up when you fell backwards... because although never telling you, he knew you had the strength to recover independently. He admired the strength you had, even if you never recognized it yourself.
Soon, the pain became numbed indifference... and with the five stages of grief, came acceptance. This peace was met with a newfound feistiness as you began to move forward from the hell you endured.
All the while, ruby eyes examined every single modification you made as you grew into an even stronger person.
He noticed every new ability, every new trait, every new weakness and insecurity. He was glad to see you survive, and wondered what the future held for you... because an extra couldn't get too strong, otherwise they'd think of themselves as competition for No. 1.
That's why he kept a close watch on you... right? He noticed one thing that grew with you:
your insomniac tendencies.Waiting for sleep to arrive drove you stir crazy, so instead, you would blast rebellious music through a pair of headphones deep into the early hours of tomorrow.
Sometimes, you would play air guitar to the songs. Other times, you sat on the floor, listening to each lyric as though it was a free therapy session.
Tonight, however, you had a little more spunk than usual... and wanted to dance - but not in the stuffiness of your dorm.
Outside, the night was rainy - causing a mist to haunt the sidewalks and rooftops.'The rooftop...'
It seemed like the perfect place to be free until you tired out.
Grabbing your speaker, you sprinted towards the nearest elevator... only to meet an explosive, red-eyed peer; groggily trudging back to his room with a cup of water in hand.Unsure if he was aware of your presence, or even awake, you leaned forward - hoping his vision would focus in on the classmate in front of him.
"Bakugo? ...Are... you okay?"
As your tongue clicked, Bakugo's eyes fluttered as he woke up a little more.
He yawned, "Where are you going? ...It's 3 in the frickin' morning..."The raspy exhaustion in his voice fluttered your heart, but even with your finalized acceptance, you felt a guard go up around you.
Unconsciously, you leaned back and cocked out a hip, "Wouldn't you like to know?"You chuckled, readjusting the speaker under your arm. This sudden confidence made Bakugo fully wake up as he responded,
"Yeah - that's why I asked. Now answer me, dammit."Knowing Katsuki, he would be stubborn about this. Telling him to go away now wasn't an option, and informing him of your plans would likely lead into him telling you off.
An idea lit in your mind as you smiled.
To catch his attention, you nudged his wrist with your knuckles, "Follow me for a second, okay?"Bakugo shrugged as he downed the water and threw the paper cup away, following you into the elevator quietly.
As the elevator arrived at the top and the doors glided open, Bakugo began to cuss under his breath - shuffling his feet as you ran into the misty rain outside, placing the speaker down and playing your music.
The blond finally stepped out and saw you by yourself, dancing in a downpour in the dead of night.
"Well? You gonna join me or go back to sleep? Your choice, Katz! I'm gonna be here either way until god knows when!" Your feet kept moving and you wished he'd stay.
Bakugo has become your friend during one of the lowest times in your life, and through the gravel, stuck by your side. After a while, the blond told you why his quirk could work at any time. It was because of his nitroglycerin sweat, and constantly being on edge about pushing himself. The two constantly fueled each other until he soon found himself in a burn out. He explained that although he grew from the experience, he still fell back into it at times... but accepting your weaknesses can be a strength to.
The genuine persona was a nice change from the deception you felt before - even with his snappy behavior - there was no facade with Bakugo.
Was it comfort? Admiration? What did you feel towards him? You were so unsure... or maybe you were in denial of something else...Before you could realize it, you found Katsuki dancing next to you - or more so swaying patiently. A palm was held out to you as his eyes glanced away,
"You haven't been yourself lately... I know how that feels..."Your heart ached as his words washed over you. Of course Bakugo could read you - that was a talent of his. He could put puzzle pieces together that, to the normal eye, didn't seem
to match... yet he could always find and connect the dots - sometimes he was too intuitive for his own good."...It's gonna be okay..." he reassured you as your hand intertwined with his - you rolled your eyes as his own hand enveloped yours.
You weren't slow dancing, but your hand never left his as you both jumped, skipped, spun, and flailed to the music. At one point he dipped you and threw you into the air, catching you and spinning in a frantic circle as your legs flew through the air behind an odd hug-like hold.
As he placed you back on the ground, the blond muttered something under his breath as you laughed your final cares away.
However, when you heard him chuckling softly, your own laughter cut to enjoy the elusive wholesome sound.Katsuki froze, realizing what you're doing as he became silent. Slowly, a smirk appeared - raising an eyebrow down at you as his head tilted slightly. Your eyes widened as his smirk became a smile - showing his teeth.
"What?" He innocently asked a stifled a storm of laughter as he watched you panic - trying to find a reason for your reddening face.
