Chapter 2: The Bonfire

I made it through the rest of the day without running into Connor, until I got to my car. I was walking towards my car and I saw him walking to his, about 50 feet ahead of me. I slowed my pace and ducked my head and waited till he was to his car and I sprinted to my car. And then as quick as I could, I opened the door and got in. I put my bag on the passenger seat and got my phone out to check my messages because it had vibrated while I was sprinting to my car. It was from Connor. 'Great, this ought to be good.' I thought as I clicked on the message.

'From Con: Hey Ali! I saw that cute running u were just doing. ;) y were u running anyways? Nbdy was behind u...'

Oh, man. What am I supposed to say back? This is really embarassing.

'To Con: Hey! That's embarassing. It was the farthest thing from cute. I was just starting my diet plan. Gotta lose them pounds. You know what I'm sayin?'

That was the stupidest reply. I'm an idiot. Why didn't I just reply with a smart remark instead of that? Gosh! I groaned to myself and put my head on my steering wheel waiting for a response. Ding Ding! I grabbed my phone and clicked on the message.

'From Con: Nah it was cute! u dont need to lose weight! ur skinny!'

Oh great. Now what do I say? I was just about to start my car when I heard a knock on my door and jumped. I looked at the passenger window and there was Connor, waving and grinning back at me.

I rolled down the window and he said,"Hey,Ali!" I forced a smile and said,"Hey,Connor."

He pointed to the door and said,"Mind if I come in?" I shook my head and grabbed my bag off the seat. He got in and shut the door. Smiling at me, he said,"Hey....um. Can I ask you something?" I nodded and he continued. "So, you know that bonfire we we're talking about during lunch? Well, I was wondering if you would wanna maybe go with me?"

I must have had a weird look on my face because Connor snapped his fingers in my face and I focused in again. He looked at me,"Are you okay? Do you feel okay?" He put his hand on my forehead. "You feel fine. So.... about the bonfire...?" I realized what he was talking about and sat straight up saying,"Oh yeah! I don't know... you know how I am at parties. I don't go to those sort of things, Con." I looked at him.

"Come on, Ali. You have to. I'll even stay with you the whole night and give you tips and 'Do's and Don't's'. Please?" He gave me the cutest puppy dog eyes and I sighed in defeat. "Fine. When and where? What do I wear? I don't want to look ugly." He clamped his hand over my mouth, stopping my rambles. "Ali?"

Muffled sounds,"Mhm?"

"You'll be fine. You won't look stupid, and I will pick you up and take you." He removed his hand and started to get out. "Hey, I'll see ya later?" I nodded and smiled. "Yep. Text me!" He smiled and got out. I rolled up the window and took a deep breath.

How much more can I take of that boy? My god.... He's like a drug, and I've hit the high every time he is with me. You're not supposed to have feelings for your best friend, but I think I just broke that unspoken rule.
