I woke up to my soft alarm buzzing at me. My first instinct was to snooze, but then adrenaline pumped through me as I remembered what today was. Today I would be placed into my new team for ninja training. I slowly rolled out of bed and went to the bathroom first. I took a quick shower and got ready for my day. I examined my ninja outfit once more in the mirror to make sure I looked put together and that I would make a good impression. I would almost certainly know my teammates since our previous training had been together but I most likely would not know my sensei. I put together a quick breakfast before a knock at my door made me panic. Was I late?
"Y/N! Hurry up, I want to get there early!" I heard a familiar voice on the other side of the door. I opened it to reveal my best friend, Sakura. I giggled at her beaming presence, I could only assume she wanted a seat next to Sasuke.
"Okay, okay. I was just trying to eat breakfast." I said beginning to walk back to my counter where the toast and egg sat. Suddenly my arm was grabbed and I was pulled out of my house.
"No time for that Y/N-chan. We need to go now!" Sakura pulled me down the street laughing. I got my feet moving fast enough to where I was at pace with her and she didn't need to pull me along.
"Okay, okay. We're almost there so slow down. I don't want to be sweating and out of breath when I meet my sensei." I sighed as she listened to me and we were at a walking pace.
"Oh my goodness I just can't wait! To think, we'll be ninjas!" Sakura held her hands to her chest and twirled around.
"In training. Ninjas in training. Don't forget that Sakura." I tapped my forehead and smiled at her. It was strange to think that after all this time we still had more training to do. We were nearly adults at this time. In 6 months I would be 18, Sakura even sooner. We approached the school building and I could see other excited students walking in. We squeezed our way in between several groups of people, holding hands to not get separated, and finally entered the room we were meeting in.
"Holy score." Sakura's eyes glowed as she spotted an open seat next to the one and only Sasuke Uchiha, her biggest crush. There were already a group of pick me girls around him begging for attention but Sakura weaseled her way into the seat next to him. I sat in the desk right below them. The room soon began to fill up with more eager students and the buzz of excitement in the air.
"I'm gonna be the next Hokage! Believe it!" I looked over to see.... him. The most annoying boy in this whole world. Naruto Uzumaki. This kid was like always on a food rush and had such a loud mouth. The last few years I've known him he would not stop talking about being a Hokage and being a great ninja. I mean, everyone has to have a passion. But comee onn. I sighed in relief as he found a seat elsewhere, I worried he would have tried to sit near me since he is so in love with Sakura. After lots of commotion and the room grew louder a much taller figure came in hushing everyone. Iruka sensei had come in meaning it was finally time. We would be getting assigned to our teams! I was so nervous. I glanced back at Sakura, only to see her glued to Sasuke.
"Alright everyone. I will read off your names and your team numbers. These will be your comrades that you will train with and fight with. You will all be meeting your new sensei's after lunch today." Iruka sensei continued and examined the paper in his hand. Then he began with the teams. Finally after some time I heard my name.
"Team Seven: Y/N L/N, Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto Uzumaki, and Sakura Haruna." I almost choked. Good news: I was on the same team as my best friend, bad news: I was on the same team as Naruto.... I knew Sakura must have been shocked. After naming a few more teams Iruka Sensei began again.
"You'll be meeting with your teams in an hour. Please show up on time and make a good impression." He announced and gave each team their meeting location. We would be meeting our sensei just outside of the school. I walked out of the classroom with Sakura and we decided to just sit outside and wait. We were in the middle of a conversation when-
"Sakura! Y/N!" Naruto came running up to us looking insane. I grimaced.
"Aren't you guys excited to be on the same team as the next Hokage? This is gonna be awesome! Believe it!" He hung around us like a lost puppy. I noticed something moving in the tree next to us and got an idea.
"Naruto, come here." I beckoned for him. I whispered to him that I thought someone was watching us and that it's his job to check it out. His eyes lit up and his mouth practically watered, and in the blink of an eye he was gone. Sakura and I watched the tree, first there was silence. Then the sound of a struggle. The tree branches moved and I could hear grunting and then in a flash two boys fell to the ground. Sasuke fell first, then Naruto landed on top of him.
"Naruto! Don't hurt Sasuke! Get off of him." Sakura got up and began hitting Naruto on the head. He swatted back at her and got up.
"Hey! This creep was watching you guys!" He pointed a finger at Sasuke, Sasuke just glared at him.
"Yeah Sasuke, why were you watching us?" I raised an eyebrow at the raven haired boy. He looked away and sighed as he stood up. He was always so distant and cold, but of course that didn't bother Sakura.
"Whatever it was I'm certain Sasuke had a good reason. Maybe he was protecting us! Right Sasuke? You were protecting us?" She clung onto him like a puppy. I went back to sitting on the bench I was on before, when I heard slight footsteps approaching. I looked over and there he was. A silver haired jonin with a mask covering his mouth and nose and his ninja headband covering his left eye approached. He was reading a book and looked as if he barely noticed us.
"Hey look! You must be our sensei!" Naruto ran up to the man, while he only peeked out over his book in return.
"Correct. Let's all sit and we can begin some introductions." The ninja put his book away and smiled. Or at least I believed he smiled, most of his face was covered but I could just tell. He was so mysterious.
"My name is (F/N) (L/N) and I enjoy working out, staying busy, and seeing my friends. I dislike negativity and being bored. Some day I just hope to be a great kunoichi and make somebody proud." I gave my introduction last. I was a nervous speaker but luckily my small stutter did not come out. I learned who he was, he was Kakashi Hatake. I was so embarrased for Sakura, she literally didn't even form sentences when she gave her introduction. I don't think she even noticed though. Kakashi sensei's introduction wasn't much better, he was so blunt that I don't know a single thing about him still. But I want to know more.
"Tomorrow morning meet at the training grounds at 5am. Oh, and you should probably skip breakfast, unless you want to puke. That's all for now." The sensei stood there and waved us off. I dreaded hearing 5am repeat itself in my head. Sasuke began to walk away with his hands stuffed in his pockets and Sakura tagged along. I then watched as Naruto ran after the two. No one even said goodbye to me or anything, they're so consumed in their little crush fantasies. Gross. I turned my head away and began walking in the opposite direction, towards my house. It sat at the edge of town because my parents could never agree on where to live, in town or out of town.
"(Y/N)." I heard a deeper voice say from right behind me. I turned to see the mysterious jonin.
"Ah, Kakashi sensei! What is it?" I bowed and looked at him eagerly. He closed his eyes and smiled.
"You're going home now right?" He asked placing his book into his jacket. I nodded my head.
"Are you busy later this evening?" He asked again taking a step closer. I felt my stomach move with butterflies, but why now?!?
"Uh, no. Is there something you need assistance with or something I have to do before training?" I asked, afraid I was in trouble for something. But I could feel some excitement that the sensei was talking to me privately.
"No, not like that. I was just wondering if I could take you to get ramen? Iruka sensei takes Naruto to a great place downtown all the time." He asked placing his hands together. I felt nervous.
"Sure! I've heard that loud mouth talk about that place all the time." I smiled while thinking about all the times Naruto could not stop talking about freaking ramen.
"Yeah, that loud mouth Iruka won't stop talking about it," Kakashi laughed," I'll meet you there at 6, okay?"
"Oh okay," I agreed, then it hit me," Hey! Wait, I meant Naruto! Not Iruka sensei, please don't tell him that!" I panicked. Kakashi had already begun to walk away but I could see him giggling. I began fast walking towards my house embarrassed, I can't believe that just happened.
