04- The World They Had Seen

A/N: Hi guys just wanted to let you know this chapter is going to show Y/N's backstory, and there will be more darker themes explored than usual. If topics like abuse, kidnap, abandonment, or starvation scare you or you find them triggering, please feel free to skip ahead. I've tried to make most of the chapter fairly light hearted but I will place a warning before I go into the heavy stuff. Anyways, enjoy!

"Alright maggots, listen up!" Shadis yelled. "You'll be working in teams against each other with the intent of stealing the other team's flag in a game I like to call, capture the flag. This exercise will test your individual ability to work with others as well as strategize. Now let me explain the rules. You'll form groups of 10 and choose a leader....."

Y/N had tuned out Shadis voice as usual and figured that she'd be able to pick up a basic understanding of the exercise as training went on.

I feel bad for the horses. Like they didn't sign up to sacrifice their lives, yet they always end up dying.

"Y/N!" Armin said running up to the (h/c)ette, disrupting her thought process. "Hey Armin what's up? She responded to the blonde running towards her. "Would you like to join our team? It's just Mikasa, Eren, and I for now but they're both off getting people for our team." He asked. "Sure that's cool." Y/N said.

After a few minutes Eren returned with Reiner, Bertoldt, and Annie. Mikasa soon followed with Jean behind her. "Ok that brings our total up to 8, so we need two more." Armin said, taking a final head count. "I know the perfect people be right back!" Y/N said, running off.

After a few minutes of looking around, Y/N spotted who she was looking for. "Hey dumbasses!" She said waving her hand at Sasha and Connie. "What's up you dumb bitch." Sasha said, playfully elbowing the one eyed girl in the side. The had become very close over the last few months, and this kind of talk was common between them.

"I got a team you and bald eagle here can join if you want." Y/N said. "Why do you keep calling me that! What even is a bald eagle?" Connie said, crossing his arms. "No idea, but the point is are you guys joining or not?" Y/N replied. "Of course we'll join!" Sasha cheered, and they proceeded to make their way back to the team.

"I have brought teammates!" Y/N exclaimed as she walked over with Sasha and Connie. "Great now that we're a complete team we gotta have a plan." Armin said. "Let's save the strategy talk for when we've found a place to set up. You never know who's listening." Mikasa said, eyeing the other teams. "You're right. We better find a good spot to set up. That could be the most important part in determining whether we win or lose."

The team head out for the forest, Y/N and Mikasa taking the lead. After what felt like an hour of walking Jean decided to talk with Eren since they were both at the rear.

"You know if you keep staring at her she's gonna notice." Jean said out of the blue. "What are you even talking about horse face?" Eren said. "C'mon it's so obvious that you like Y/N. You haven't taken your eyes off of her once." Jean responded. "I don't have a crush on Y/N! Besides why do you even care if I stare at her. Do you have a crush on her or something?" Eren said defensively to which Jean let out a laugh. "She's cute and all but I got my eye on someone else, Jaeger." His eyes slowly shifting towards Mikasa.

"Look what I'm trying to say is if you're gonna make a move, you better make it soon. You've heard how the guys in our cabin talk about her every night. Wouldn't be surprised if one of them worked up the courage to ask her out eventually." Jean said. "I doubt she'd actually go out with any of them. She seems more focused on training than guys." The brunette responded. "Still, you never know. But ask yourself this: do you want to see her holding some guy's hand that isn't yours?" Jean asked.
