“Happy Valentine’s day, here you go.” Devon smiled sitting down on the bench next to his girlfriend, Caroline holding a big, brown teddy bear that had a sign that said I love you. He looks at her puffy pink cheeks and her red full lips.
Caroline examined the gift. Her face was full of disgust. “What is this?”
“It’s your gift from the heart.” He answered. His smile was fading away. “Don’t you like it?”
“Is that a trick question?” She growled.
“If you don’t like it, you don’t have to damn insult me.”
“Stop being a baby, baby.” She whined.
“You know I thought you would love it, what the hell.” He answered disappointed.
“Alright, alright, Thank you.” She said. “Now, can you stop being a baby?”
“I’m not being a baby, I just think you don’t get that I put a lot of effort thinking you would love this.”
She laughed. “Are you kidding for this piece of shit? You put a lot of effort in a teddy bear, come on baby be reasonable.”
“Me reasonable, why can’t you?” He said annoyed. “You act like I can afford the things you want.”
“Yeah, you can.”
“What the hell are you talking about, I don’t have a job!” He complained putting his hands through his brown wavy hair. His brown eyes were in anger and realizing what person he has dated. His face started to turn red because of the embarrassment that he felt because he can't give her what she wants.
“Go get one and when you do, don’t buy me crap like this.” She stood up from the bench and threw it in the garbage can.
“What the hell are you doing, I paid twenty dollars for that!” He shouted.
“Twenty dollars on me, are you fucking serious?” She laughed loving how he’s getting mad. She enjoyed his madness over silly little things it was like fuel coming in.
“Shut the fuck up, I’m tired of you thinking you’re the shit!” He demanded. “You and I are through.”
“What?” She questioned circling around him as he walked. “You don’t want to do this.”
“I’m serious, now get out of my face.” He answered.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
“No, you’re not. Face it, you’re like this every damn day.”
“I can change.” She pleaded.
“I don’t need you to change, I need you to get the fuck away from me and leave me alone.” He walked off.
Caroline watched him as he walked off. She didn’t want this. She couldn’t believe she was the few that had her heart broken in the mist of Valentine’s Day. She walked home in the sunset. As she came in her blue painted living room filled with family pictures, she took off her red high heels and put it by the door. She looked around and saw the TV automatically turning on with the crunching noise mixed with static filling the living room. She jumped and saw her grandfather at the kitchen doorway slapping the black remote back and forth in his hands.
“Damn thing.” He mumbled. “Hello, honey.” He answered when he looked at his seventeen year old granddaughter that was dressed in a royal blue and white pattern striped linen top with navy blue skinnies with a black belt. He saw something in his granddaughter’s pale complexion round face. It was filled with a bit of guilt and anger.
