NOT WARRIORS

THE ONLY CHAPTER THAT EXISTS

Some things in life are bound to happen. One of the examples was the alien invasion that took the entire planet in surprise. After the initial wave of panic, the world's governments came together to fight back the aliens that invaded earth. Although scientists had predicted we were not alone in the universe, the invasion was nothing like anyone had ever imagined. It came fast, so fast that the human race had no idea what was happening until the aliens had already took over half of the planet.

 Awsten was there when it all happened. Even now when Awsten looks back, he vividly remembers the sheer terror the washed through him when he found out what was happening. He was scared what would happen of him and his family who were on vacation in Hawaii.

It was June. They were having fun on the beach when Awsten saw it. He was in the water when his eyes caught the asteroid falling to the island opposite to the beach him and his family were on. In a matter of minutes aliens had come out of the asteroid and had started attacking all nearby signs of life. When the aliens were finished with the island, they started moving towards the beach were Awsten and his family were on. It scared him. The thought of what is going to happen to him and his family scared him. As the aliens kept coming closer, Awsten's mind was going blank and his heart racing faster that a sports car.

The next part is the one he doesn't want to remember at all. It still haunts him in his nightmares...

It's been an year since the incident. Awsten now lives with four guys he met during his runaway from the coast to the countryside after he was alerted that the aliens were invading the planet. Awsten along with Geoff, Otto and Travis (the other guys), was living in a rundown hotel which has a few rooms that were decent for living in, considering the current world situation.

"Awsten come down for lunch! Stop daydreaming!", Travis called out to him from the floor below him. Awsten grunted, checked his watch- it was 2:00pm on 20/3/2021, and got out of the bed. Before going downstairs he decided to change his t-shirt.

"Ya know I was starting to get my hopes up that you wouldn't come down and I could have your food.", Geoff said in joking manner that made everyone's faces light up with smiles.

"I figured that out, that's why I am here. To stop you from eating my food." Awsten replied playfully.

After a lighthearted lunch hour, they boys were back to their usual chores and duties that were decided upon the moment they found the place and thought it was the best for them to live here. Awsten had the duty to scout all close by places for survivors. He didn't exactly like his job but it was better that cleaning up or any other job that required him to stay inside the hotel and work for hours at a time.

Stepping out side the building he was in, Awsten felt the hot summer winds on his skin. It was moments like these that made him want to do laundry with Otto instead of the field job. Pushing away his thoughts, the purple-haired boy started to make his way to the nearest patch of rundown buildings which was about 10 miles from where he was standing. It's a long way from home, he found himself think at the sight.

Two hours into the journey, which Awsten assumed would be a four hour one, he took a short snack break to refuel his body and have a few minutes of rest before continuing to the patch of buildings on foot. Just as he started walking again, Awsten felt someone following him. Instinctively he turned back to see who it was- or what it was, but found nothing. Maybe it was just a light breeze, he shrugged and resumed walking.

He finally reached the patch of building and it took him approximately an hour less to reach there than what he originally thought. As he was stepping inside the building, Awsten once again had the feeling someone was following him. He started to turn around and this time he knew for real that it wasn't just a false alarm. As soon as he finished turning around the alien attacked him and he heard people screaming in the distance- there are people here. This made Awsten take out the charges inside his side cargo-pockets and detonate, after all his parents too sacrificed themselves for the sake of survival of others. Without giving it a second thought, he pressed the button, he and the alien, both covered in each others blood due to the detonation, now gone...
