💙Renga: thunderstorms

As the Thunder boomed, I hid underneath my comforter shaking a crying. My hands were wrapped around my legs as I cried into my knees.

I had always had a huge fear of thunder and loud noises and this is one of the worst and loudest storms to ever hit Okinawa.

Luckily these don't happen often but when they do, it hurts to even exist.

I need a distraction. If I continue to just sit here and live through it my anxiety will never go down.

I could call Langa but I didn't want to worry him or wake him up.

I shakily reach for my phone that was next to my feet under the blanket.

12:56am

He's probably asleep. Maybe one text won't hurt.

Reki-
Hey are you up?

It took him about a minute to reply.

Snow-
Yeah what's up?

Reki-
Can I call you?

Snow-
Yeah sure

As soon as I see those words I quickly call him. It rings about twice before he finally picks up.

"Hey Reki what's up?"

I sniffle a bit before answering. "Well um I really wanted to talk to someone and um-" I contemplated telling him about my fear, but I didn't want to seem like a scaredy-cat. "I-I just needed someone to talk to."

"Are you okay? You sound like you've been crying."

"Y-" I was about to tell him I was fine when another loud boom occurred. I screamed a little, thought I was trying to be quiet for my families sake. "N-no. No I'm not."

"Okay, I'll be over in 5 minutes."

"Wait- Langa! You don't have to come over. I just want you to talk to me."

"Well talking is better in person isn't it. Plus I'll bring headphones so you don't have to hear the storm." I hear shuffling in the background. "Okay I'll be there soon."

"Wai-" but it was to late. He hung up.

As happy as I was that he was coming over, I felt so bad for worrying him and for him having to come over in the rain.

A few minutes passed and I hear something hit my window. I uncover myself and look towards the window. My favorite blue haired boy is standing down in the rain. I quickly open my window and let down my ramp. He climbs up quickly so the ramp doesn't get slippery under him before he can.

When he is finally up, he helps me pull the ramp up. I look at him and notice he's soaked. "Oh my goodness! Let me get you some dry clothes!" I whisper shout to him, heading to my wardrobe. I grab one of my bigger hoodies and a pair of sweatpants that I remember being but on me. "Here, I'll turn around so you can change."

I turn around and wait while also covering my eyes. I must've zoned out because when he touched my shoulder I jumped in fear.

"Oh sorry Reki. I didn't mean to scare you." Langa says with sympathy.

"I-it's okay I'm just a bit jumpy right now." I say scratching the back of my neck. Suddenly another loud boom occurred. I shrieked and jumped on Langa feeling my anxiety return.

"So it is the storm." He mumbles putting his arms around me. I nod and could feel my eyes clouding with tears but I held them back. He leads me to my bed while still holding me. He quickly wraps me in my blanket and grabs his backpack that he brought. He grabbed his phone and his earbuds.

He plugged in the earbuds and gave them to me. I put them in reluctantly and waited for him to start the music.

He began to play a song by an American singer named Joji. I had heard it before and knew it was soothing.

When he was all finished on his phone, he put it down and wrapped his arms around my blanket burrito self. He helped me lay down and I got my hands free so I could wrap them around his abdomen. I cuddled into his neck and let the music take over my mind.

Langa-
When I laid his down, he cuddles into me and began to drift off to the music. I'm happy he couldn't hear the storm cause it had become really bad.

I lift my arm over him and began petting his head. My fingers grazing through his soft strawberry smelling hair. When I had felt all his weight fall on me, I knew I could got to sleep as well now.

As long as he's asleep I can rest. I put my hand back on his back and began to drift off to the sound of his breathing in my ear, cause his face was in my neck.
