The first few days of school had flown by, mostly just getting into the habit of things. The only difference? Her wolf was restless, pacing around in her mind. Her birthday was tomorrow and she knew what that meant. She knew her mate was here, in the school and very near, but there still wasn't the sparks or aching to be near Jasmine, she was anxious to confirm everything. She parked her motorcycle in the back of the parking lot, feeling her shoulders tense as different scents hit her.

She started making her way towards the school when a car honked in front of her. She looked over and immediately smiled as Sam revved her engine at her. She waited as Sam parked and headed over to her. Her long legs peeked out of black high waisted shorts, paired off with an open flannel revealing a crop top.

She cleared her throat and they walked towards the school together. "Sammy you're just now getting here? What about cheerleading practice?" She asked, holding the door open for her. Sam brushed her hand over her arm as she walked in.

"Are you stalking me now?" Sam teased, "If you were a better stalker, you'd know I dismissed everyone early so that they could have extra time or even go home to get ready for the first week of school."

She shook her head as they navigated their way through the sea of people. Her skin felt tight and she realized she was on edge. A group of sophomores who managed to slip their way onto the varsity football team stood down the hall, whispering about Samantha and how good she looked.

She tried to control it, her wolf egged her on, telling her to protect those who are important to them. Before she even knew what was happening, she was in the middle of the group, towering over the kids. Most backed off but two held their head high, challenging her even. "Can we help you fag?" The one with too much hair gel sneered at her.

Her wolf roared inside of her, she knocked the boys together by their heads causing them both to groan and fall to the ground. She crouched next to them, shaking to gain control as the hallway went silent. "Don't you ever, and I mean EVER look at her again." She growled at them and was immediately yanked away and shoved into a bathroom.

She spun around and was met face to face with Jasmine's glare. She tried to cool down but her skin felt like it was burning. "What the hell do you think you're doing? I used to think it was sweet that you stood up for everyone but now you're practically bullying anyone who gives you the wrong look!" Jasmine said.

She refrained from rolling her eyes, "That wasn't about me. They were talking about-"

"Samantha! I know, but you need to get over yourself. Sam isn't a saint so who cares if people talk about her. It doesn't even bother her!" Jasmine seethed.

Before she could respond, there was a soft knock at the door. Jasmine went over, rolled her eyes and walked out, leaving the door cracked to reveal a timid Samantha. She hesitantly stepped forward and opened her arms offering a hug. They met half way and she could feel the tension seeping out of her as Sam rubbed circles into her back.

"I told you that you didn't need to do that, they're just messing around Oak." Sam whispered, "Jasmine is going to hate me again." Her grip tightened on Sam as she hadn't meant to cause trouble between the best friends again.

She pulled back to apologize and got distracted by the light dust of freckles on Sam's cheeks. Her eyes locked as Sam bit her bottom lip, a nervous tick she had noticed from years ago.

The bell rang cutting them off, they sprang apart and made their way to class.

As the day ended, Jasmine forgave her for being 'overprotective' of Sam. She was headed to her bike when she heard footsteps rushing towards her. She instinctively caught Jasmine as her jumped onto her back. "How do you always know its me?" Jasmine giggled, placing light kisses on her neck.

"I've got super powers" she joked. But her tone came out huskier than normal, her wolf growled. Jasmine lightly nibbled on her neck and she closed her eyes, fighting for control over the situation.

"You're spending the night, right? I want to wake up to you on your birthday. Maybe give you an early present tonight?" Jasmine whispered, eyes dark with desire. She found herself nodding before she even thought it over, Jasmine smirked and gave her a kiss before heading to her own ride.

She felt eyes on her and her gaze shifted to meet Sammy, who quickly looked away. She was about to question her when Joel, the captain of the soccer team walked up and hugged Sam from behind. Her wolf snarled, she took a step forward to separate them when she heard it.

"Don't cause a scene, please Oak." Sam whispered, knowing good and well she could hear her from across the parking lot. She clenched her fists and tried to catch Sam's eyes but she as too busy laughing at something Joel had said. Not understanding why she wasn't handling anything well she headed home to pack her bag.

---

Her Dad was out of town for business and her Mom not being able to handle the distance from her mate, went with. Apparently humans felt the bond much harder than wolfs. Werewolves could feed the ache with smell, touch, taste of their mate but humans had dimmer senses and if they didn't handle the mating protocol it usually drove them mad.

She started packing an over night bag and essentials for the party that was supposed to be happening after the football team won their game tomorrow. She noticed a note on her desk,

'Oakley, We love you and we love whoever your mate ends up being. We will be home as soon as we can to celebrate! Love, Mom & Dad'

She smiled, tucking the note in her pocket. She thought about letting her wolf out for a run to let some steam off but she knew she wouldn't have time. She grabbed her bags and headed to Jasmine's house.
