" Rise and Shine greenie!" A voice said awakening me I an instant. The sun peaked through the window bringing the temperature in the room to a boiling point. "Good morning!" The same voice said again, I rubbed my eyes profusely. Looking around the room I spotted multiple sleeping bags. A small path straight to the door, was empty the wooden panels shined in the sunlight. I looked at my living alarm standing close to my bed, looking at me with bright green eyes and a cheshire grin. "Hello." I grumbled resting my weight on my elbows. "You had one hell of a first day yesterday greenie." They spoke "I'm Chloe." She said holding out her hand. I grabbed it as she pulled me up. She grabbed my bag from the floor and handed it to me. I grabbed it from her and I swung it over my shoulder. "We should get going, ie been assigned to watch over you since your little incident yesterday." Chloe said leading me thought the path free of sleeping bags to the door. "Why?" Was the only thing I could muster out, each steeping making me feel nauseous. "Just a precaution." She said smiling. "Now this is a small building with our eagerly growing population of people taking up only a single floor. There is still a lot to do." Chloe said her words calm and collected but they had a sense of urgency in them. "What kind of things?" I asked "well as you know, were stuck here and we don't have a lot of supplies. We estimated the how log we have until we run out of food, water stuff like that." Chloe stated guiding me down another familiar hallway. "How long do you think we have." I asked walking behind her. Chloe suddenly stopped, causing me to almost bump into her. "1 week." She said, her eyes draining of hope filling with despair. " so what are we going to do?" I asked. Almost robotically she regained her pep like it was built into her. "We are sending out teams of people, anyone who knows how to fight and sending them out into the building to search f0r food, weapons, supplies anything to help us to survive." She said leading me to the doorway fo a classroom. The same one that read "councilors office." Yesterday. "Okay before we go in" Chloe said stopping me in my tracks. "Don't let them get in you head." She gave me a reassuring smile. I nodded and walked in. I immediately spotted people sitting at a big table made up if smelled desks. Josh and the girl from yesterday sat at the table along with a bunch of other people. They all looked older than me which filled me with anxiety. Except for one boy, he was my age i assumed, short wavy brown hair, hazel eyes, full lips and multiple moles and freckles scattered across his face, to the side of his face there was a huge scar that went from his eyebrow to his cheek. We made eye contact for just a few seconds. "This is our new member. Greenie." Chloe spoke " I believe we've already met." Josh said with a smile. I smiled back at him. " okay so you know Josh and I believe you know Harriet." Chloe said pointing at the girl from yesterday. Harriet. That was her name. " that's Theo." Chloe said pointing to a boy with black hair, he looked Asian, his olive skin looked brown in the sunlight, small eyes, and a big nose. Making him look as if he couldn't see. " That's Mira." Chloe insinuated words a dark-skinned girl with dreads, brown eyes and a long red scarf on her head. She gave me a slight nod as Chloe continued talking. " Thats Derek our leader." She pointed to a big man who looked about 20, dark hair that pointed at the ceiling in the most odd directions, blue eyes, small tattered freckles laid under his dark eyes bags. He gave me a wave and looked back down to his papers. Chloe looked almost glum introducing the next member. " that's Dylan." The boy never even noticed that i was staring when Chloe mentioned his name. Just continued looking at his faded Manila folder in front of him. " now that we have introductions out of the way, lets get on with the meeting. Greenie you can sit next to Josh." Chloe said as I walked to my assigned seat. Josh sat to the right of me and empty seat to my left. I assumed that was Chloe's seat. Followed by Theo, Derek, Dylan, Mira, and Harriet. Al in the form of a horseshoe. Chloe stood in the front using a stick to point to flyers on an old school board, " okay everyone, listen up!" Chloe announced. "This. Is a map of the building." Clouds said pointing to a faded map of the school. "This is the nearest exit." The south side exit. Closest to the girls bathroom. "What exactly do you want us to do?" Dylan spoke for the first time. " I'm glad you asked Dylan" Chloe said glancing at me. " we need to break out into search parties, sending two groups of two people into the outsides world." Chloe said pulling out a piece of paper and from a nearby folder. "To do what exactly?" Derek said. He crossed his arms and put his feet up on the desk. I glanced over to Theo he looked disorganized, sad. Almost angry. He gave me a slight smile and continued to pick at his nails. "To search food, weapons and supplies. Smartie pants." Chloe said sarcastically despite the criticism being pointed at her. "You want us.... to go... out there." I finally said after sitting I silence for so long. " well what else are we going to do?" Josh chimed in. "Listen okay, we dot have a choice. We're running out of food." Chloe said. Her tone was serious. "So who is going to go?" Derek asked. "Well aren't you the leader of the group." Dylan called out clearly annoyed. "Well I shouldn't be the one too choose who lives and dies. I have no right to play god." Derek retorted back at him. Who said anyone was dying? I thought. This was all way to overwhelming. Dylan and Derek stated to bicker back and fourth. "Well if you don't like the way i do things maybe you should be in charge." Derek said quickly " I couldn't care less about what you do!" Dylan said raising his voice. My head pounded with questions, why was Derek so mad?, Who was going to die? Why was it so loud.?  I quickly squeezed my eyes shut. "Guys." Theo said quietly.  After no avail  Theo repeated "GUYS!" He yelled. Dylan and Derek stoped arguing. "Your scaring Greenie." Theo said calmly. I opened my eyes as soon as the room went silent. Dereks eyes filled with remorse. Dylan just faced the floor, clearly stilled pissed. A wave of embarrassment crashed over my entire being. I felt like a child, so little, so tiny one who couldn't handle a bit of yelling. I picked at my nails slumping back into my chair. "Okay well, let's break into groups," Chloe spoke almost in a whisper. " Josh, Greenie, Theo and Dylan. Your in the first group. Harriet, Derek, Mira and I. Will be in the second group." Chloe said. Josh looked over to me and gave a friendly smile. I smiled back. " okay guys, disband into your groups, well leave at midnight." Chloe said, waving down her group as they began talking. Josh grabbed my hand and pulled me to the directions of where our small group was forming. They were huddled around a small group of desk's "So what are we going to do?" Theo spoke his voice deep and graveling.  " i think we should slip up into groups of two. One that will stay here ad observe. The other will go out to explore." Josh suggested "i agree." Theo said peering down at my figure, he was just a foot taller than me. "Okay then who's taking who?" Josh asked. Theo opened up his mouth to speak but Dylan quickly cut him off. "Ill take greenie." Dylan spoke. "Okay then. Josh and I will stay here and Dylan and Green- bean will go out scouting." Theo said. I almost laughed when he called me Green-bean. " Okay then, we'll map out our routes and meet back here at midnight." Dylan said quickly before grabbing my hand  and dragging me down the hall to one of the sleeping rooms. "Where's your bed?" Dylan asked. I pointed to my sleeping bag in the corner. Dylan continued to drag me along. "Why did you bring me here?" I asked. The both of use plopping down onto the platform. "I wanted to talk to you." Dylan said "about?" I asked. He paused looking into my eyes. I analyzed his face, his eyes a hazel almost honey color, the lightest sprinkle freckles on his face, various moles appeared around his face, his scar not visible at this angle. " about our plan." Dylan said reading into his back pocket and pulled out a piece of paper and a pen. He scribbled a couple lines o to the paper. "Well take this exit and then down the stairs to the main lobby." As Dylan spoke he drew lines and circles around each passage and hallways. Looking up from the map, I stared at him, his eyes focused on his work. Underneath the whole tough guy act. Dylan was actually a pretty decent guy.
