I'm not dead! I could blame not posting on COVID or school but to be honest I was just really lazy...

Chapter 4

The promise Hinata made where he said that he would tell the volleyball team if they got concerned about him. Yes, that promise. It went out the window.

"Huh?" Hinata asked turning to face Suga.

"That bruise you have. Its huge! Are you okay?" Suga asked with a look of worry over his face. Hinata stood there confused for a second before he remembered his fall training yesterday. Shit. How was he supposed to explain that.

"Oh, that," Hinata said glancing down to his shirtless left side. "Oh um, I tripped over one of Natsu's toys and fell down the stairs at home." It was easier than expected to come up with that lie, maybe its because he actually has fallen down the stairs after tripping over her toys before.

"Who's Natsu?" Tanaka piped in.

"Oh, she's my little sister." He said with a smile thinking of his cute but annoying sibling.

"Oh, that makes sense, just tell Daichi or coach if it gets too painful when you play," Suga told him.

"Thank you, but don't worry, I've managed before, and I'll manage now" he said smiling but mentally cursing himself after he saw the concerning look Suga gave him.

Morning practice carried on pretty well, the pain wasn't that bad unless he messed up his receives and had to dive, which he did quite a lot. So, it ended being a constant pain, but it was still manageable. School itself seemed slower than a snail's pace, especially when he knew that he had practice after, and he would be able to practice both his spikes and his quads.

"Shimizu!" Daichi called at practice that afternoon, "They've arrived by now, right?"

"Yes, they're here, I'll hand them to the first years now." She responded.

Hand what out? Hinata thought but his question got answered seconds later when she gave him and Kageyama their team jackets. Just the sight of them made him so happy, it was like when he got his first ever Japan Jacket for international competitions. He still had in his closet, a size or two too small but he would never throw it out.

XXXX

"Look what we got today! Look! Look! Look!" Hinata yelled when he got into Viktor's car that afternoon, motioning to his jacket.

"You got your team jacket!"

"I know. I'm so happy, it's like when I got my first Japan jacket."

"That's really good, I'm happy for you. I just want you and your sister to be happy, and if volleyball does that then I'm glad." Viktor said as he started the car.

"Volleyball does make me happy, but don't think that skating doesn't. Volleyball maybe a close second, but skating will always be first for me. Also, speaking of that. When you said my senior debut, did you mean nationally or internationally?"

"Yuuri and I were actually wanting to discus that at practice today. We wanted to leave that up to you. If you want to compete with Yuuri and I internationally then you can gladly do so, if not, then we'll just need to find you and your sister a babysitter for competitions."

"No!" Hinata said quickly, "I mean, 'no' for the babysitter part. I want to do international competitions with you guys."

"Then it looks like you'll need extra training then, especially closer to competitions." He said pulling into the rinks parking lot.

Kageyama and Hinata were eating lunch together the next day when the dark-haired boy spoke up.

"Oi dumbass! Are your parents like really rich?" he asked.

"What? Why would you think that?" Hinata spluttered.

"Because someone picked you up in a really fancy car yesterday where usually the rest of us just walk or ride our bike."

"Oh," Kageyama must have seen him get into the car yesterday. "Well, my dads are really good at their jobs, so yeah, I think so. And I live pretty far so they prefer to drive me"

"Dads? As in plural?" Kageyama asked with a confused expression of his face.

"Yes dumbass, I've got two dads."

"Are they gay then?"

"No, they're just married because they can. Of course, they're gay." Hinata said sarcastically.

"Oi! I didn't ask for sarcasm dumbass."

"Well you asked a stupid question, so it was only fair." He said laughing, but it got quiet when he stopped.

"Does that mean you were adopted then?" Kageyama asked quietly, surprising Hinata.

"Oh, um, yeah. They started fostering me about 3 years ago, but they only officially adopted me 2 years ago." He said solemnly thinking of why he got fostered by them in the first place.

"What about before that?"

"I lived with my mom." He said trying to give a short answer. He really didn't want to go down that road now, not this early in their friendship ( if he could even call it that ), and not in the middle of the school day.

"What happened to your mo-" Kageyama started asking before the bell cut him off.

"The bell just went; we better get to class." Hinata said getting up and leaving Kageyama behind, happy to not have to answer his question.

Their conversation at lunch put Hinata in a bit of a mood for the rest of the day. He tried to cover it up best he could. But people like Suga and Kageyama noticed. With a glance he didn't look that different from normal, but the times when he thought no one was looking his smile fell, and a dull look covered his eyes. When practice finished and he got into Viktor's car ,he wasn't expecting to get called out on it. Especially by Yuuri.

"Oh! Yuuri!" Hinata exclaimed, "I was expecting Viktor."

"Yeah, well I thought I'd surprise you today."

"No that's great. I'm happy." Hinata said turning towards the window as Yuuri drove off.

"Okay spill it." Yuuri said after 5 minutes of silence. "What's wrong. Yesterday Viktor was saying how you couldn't stop talking about your new volleyball jacket and all sorts of other stuff, and now your dead silent. Is it because I'm here?"

"What? No!"

"Then spill," Yuuri urged.

"It nothing okay,"

"It doesn't seem like nothing if it can turn the most talkative person I know, silent,"

"It fine, someone just said something today and it got me thinking of my mom, it's not important."

"Sho, if it's about your mom then it will always be important. Just because she's not here doesn't make her less important. You're not feeling the best, so we'll go easy on training today, nothing too hard mostly some step sequences, so that we can relax at home and help you feel better." Yuuri said hoping to comfort him.

A/n I know this was a short chapter but I'm trying to get into the swing of things again and start updating more often.
