The sound of the rain was nice. Comforting. You liked it when the dripping of water was the only sound around. However, unluckily today you had been subjected to the City's gossip.
The chatter of the other bugs around you echoed in your head as you simply tried to move past.

The infection was getting bad. You knew this, everyone knew this, and similarly everybody wondered what the King was going to do about it. Even you were a little curious, But you minded your own business. ...That is, Until you overheard something particularly interesting.

"I heard.. He needs a bug to sacrifice." One of them said. "Well it's not going to be me!" The smaller of the group replied. "Of course not, You dolt, You could barely suffice as tiktik food." They argued for a bit, mindless drabble you tuned out in favor of the important bits. "Whatever, thats not the point! It's not up for public debate. He's going to make  a bug."
Hearing this halted you to a full stop. Make... A bug? To sacrifice? How would.. What would...

-----

You had tuned out after their last words. You had quickly rushed home and slammed the door closed in a panic. You couldn't comprehend this. It was only gossip, right? Fake news spread for entertainment? It had to have been stretched far from the truth.

He wouldn't do that. No...

It didn't matter now. Even if true you couldn't change it. Your opinion on royal decisions did not matter. You were hardly even a citizen of his kingdom.

You'd simply have to deal with whatever comes next.

-----

It had been mere hours since the news was announced. Everyone was ecstatic, overjoyed in the fact this could all end with this new plan. But you hadn't stopped dwelling on your own anxieties since the last you'd heard of any action being taken towards the infection.

They called it a vessel. it could not think, it could not feel, and it could not speak. Made to harbor the source of the infection inside of its hollow shell. It could do no more than follow direct orders.

But you had a feeling. A bad feeling. A feeling that somebody was lying.
There was no information on the Vessel's creation. Any questions aimed towards this were deflected so perfectly you would think they were never asked in the first place.

Surely, they would have released the information if it wasn't going to cause problems.
and if it was going to cause problems, well, you would just have to find a way to figure it out yourself. You didn't know how yet, but...

There was something suspicious about the sudden creation of this being you needed to know the answers to.
