CHAPTER 2: Man Down

As they all enter the cabin, Kian locks the door once more, then proceeds to the living room to see what they were doing. Kian noticed that Lake was staring at the animals on the wall.

Kian: Killed em' and stuffed em' myself.

Marie: that's not creepy...

Kairo stares at the animals with no expression, Copper walks into the living room.

Copper: That's dark

Geneva: Speaking of dark, can we light the fire?

Geneva asks hesitantly.

Kian: Sorry, the fireplace isn't working...

Marie: What do you mean it's not working? Is there a body in there or something?

Lake: Ahaha, Ok cool cool cool.

Lake hugs Oscar tighter, Vespers stood there judgingly.

Geneva: And why isn't it working?

Kian: Uh, it just isn't...

Kian looks away from all the eyes pinned onto him, everyone assumes that the lumberjack would own a wood burning fireplace.

Vespers: Oh wow, what a great and valid reason.

Geneva: There has to be a reason...

Geneva pushes the conversation.

Kian: Well there ain't one, love.

Geneva: WeLl ThErE aIn'T oNe.

Geneva snaps back after narrowing her eyes at Kian.

Marie: Like I said. It's a body ain't it? What're you hiding, old man?

Kian: Nothing in particular

Copper got bored during this moment of interaction and slowly walked away from the living room, she decided to go upstairs and explore a bit. Geneva stood up after petting Oscar.

The lights go out.

After a minute or so, they come back on.

Kian: Oh sorry, I forgot to mention, that happens often. Hope that didn't scare you too much...

Lake nearly passes out from fear, Geneva's hands shook, she walks over to Kairo and holds his hands. Trembling, Kairo sighs loudly. Marie latches onto Oscar, who had also been slightly startled.

Kairo: OH-

Vespers: Why is your house so creepy, man?

Kian lets out a chuckle which seemed way too suspicious. Kairo looked at Kian, then to the fireplace.

Kairo: I'm going to check out the fireplace

Kairo whispers to Geneva.

Meanwhile, Copper finished going up the stairs, she decided to fulfill herself by taking a nap. She headed over to one of the many walls in the hallway and laid her back up against it, she slowly fell asleep. Kairo lets go of Geneva's hand to investigate the fireplace. He just stood up, then stopped.

The lights went out once more.

Kian: Hmm? This quickly? It usually doesn't happen for a little while longer, strange.

Everyone heard the sound of metal clanking somewhere within the room, they all sat there frozen as they heard footsteps make their way over to someone. But who? There was the horrible noise of something cracking, and suddenly a thump. When the lights turned back on, Adrian, who had been silent ever since they arrived, was found dead. Someone had impaled a large fire poker into his left eye, death was almost instant. The cracking noise they heard was the sound of his skull being smashed into the bricks on the fireplace, as the poker penetrated him. His body tumbled off of the bricks and onto the bear rug. Oscar got up from where he was laying and pawed Adrian, thinking he would get up. He never did.

Marie: OSCAR NO!

Kian: oh shit-

Copper suddenly woke up, due to the fact that there seemed to be commotion downstairs, for she heard a loud thump. She proceeded down the stairs to find Adrian dead. Geneva shuffles away from the fireplace, eyeing the limp body. Kairo looks away to avoid seeing Adrian any longer, he walks away from the fireplace.

Vespers: Damn, that sucks

Lake: Vespers why are you like this?

Vespers: Like what? What am I like?

Kairo: Vespers-

Vespers was slightly offended by Lakes comment. Kairo moves to the side of the room, he sticks his face in his hands. Marie puts her hand over Lake's eyes. Copper's eyes widened as she paused and looked at the body.

Copper: Oh shit...

Kian: Oh god! He's bleeding all over my bear hide!

Marie: You've probably got blood out of it once, you can do it again.

Lake: That's what you're worried about?!

Lake tried to look towards where she heard Kians voice, but Marie kept moving her hand over Lake's eyes.

Copper: The blood is ruining the bear hide...

Lake: You too?!

Lake tried to look towards Copper to the best of her abilities. Kian walks over to the body, pissed, he picks up Adrian which results in blood getting all over his flannel.

Kian: I'll be back

Geneva stares at Kian, still not moving from where she is next to the fireplace.

Vespers: Man's gonna stuff him.

Kairo chokes on the comment.

Marie: Nah, he's probably going to the meat grinder.

Vespers: Ooo, Adrian burger?

Marie: yum!

Lake: Why?!

Kian: You will eat what I serve

Kian calls out before leaving the house.

Vespers: Absolutely not gonna happen

Geneva nods in agreement.

Kairo: Cruel humor

Marie: Oop, we really do be having Adrian steak huh?

Copper: Might be better than my sisters cooking, at least.

Lake: Guess I'll starve

Marie: Not with me around- wait... I want spaghetti with Adrian meat sauce

Geneva: I can make mac and cheese

Vespers: Kairo, you can make me an Adrian meat burger.

Kairo: Uh...

Geneva glares at Vespers and Marie

Copper: Both of you need help...

Marie: I know.

Geneva: I can make spaghetti but no... Adrian sauce.

Vespers: But the Adrian Sauce makes it good!

Kairo looks at Vespers and Marie with a "please stop" look.

Marie: ok, fine.

A few snickers leave Kairo before he can stop himself. Geneva glances at Kairo, a confused look plastered on her face. Copper doesn't seem to be scared, nor worried about the fact that someone died, but rather disgusted at the comments.

Copper: Nope, screw this, I'm going back upstairs...

Copper says as she turns around and walks back up the stairs from which she came.
