Evangeline ran through the crowd of officers and detectives in the bullpen toward Captain Young's office. She pounded her fist against the door before throwing it open.
"She's dead?"
"Miss Brear!" the captain exclaimed. "What on earth are you doing here?"
"Detective Rosen is dead?!"
The man sighed and turned in his chair to face her. "I'm afraid so, Miss Brear."
"How?"
"You've been let go, Brear," the man said slowly. "You're not allowed to know."
"What about motive? Anything you can tell me!"
"You're very invested in this case for someone no longer on the squad."
"Yeah! I was working it before you let me go!"
"You're not working it now." The man looked at her with a serious expression. "So I suggest you let. It. Go."
Evangeline narrowed her eyes before standing straight and turning sharply on her heel.
Once she was out of his office, Captain Young rubbed at his eyes and looked down at the file he had been looking over before the interruption.
The necklace, the connection to the victim and suspects, the murder weapon being found in her dishwasher, no recollection of what had happened the night of the murder, the missing file and evidence...
"Oh god." He looked up quickly and ran to the door.
"Stop that woman!" he shouted into the bullpen. "Stop Evangeline Brear!"

"What the hell is going on?" Evangeline shouted as she got cuffed to the interrogation table. "What did I do?"
She looked to the door as her former captain entered the room.
"Miss Brear," he greeted once again.
"Captain, I didn't do anything!" the woman insisted. "You have to let me go!"
"Evie," the man said softly. "You were one of my best detectives. But the evidence we've found against you..."
Her eyes widened. "What evidence?" she asked.
The man closed his eyes and took a deep breath before providing the file. He set it between the both of them and opened it.
"Firstly, your necklace was found at the crime scene."
He removed the crime scene photo and set it aside.
"Secondly, your testimony of having no recollection of the night of the murder."
Evangeline swallowed hard.
"Thirdly, your connection to Richard Preacher."
"But-" He cut her off.
"Fourthly," he said. "You called me stating the murder weapon was found in your dishwasher."
He showed her a picture of the scene and set it beside the crime scene photo.
"And fifthly, you kept the file and stole back your necklace from evidence." He pointed to the gold chain around her neck.
"So," he continued, "explain to me how you're innocent."
"I-" She stared down at the table. "I don't- I didn't-"
The man sat back and folded his hands in front of himself. "I'm waiting."
"I was drugged."
"Pardon?"
Her eyes lit up and she looked at him quickly.
"I was drugged! My wine the other night—That could also be why I don't remember anything from the night of Rambeau's murder!"
"Miss Brear, you sound a little too sure about this."
"My blood tests from the other day proves my wine was tampered with."
"Who would have drugged you?" the captain asked.
Evangeline shook her head. "I don't know."
"You better come up with something. And fast."
