The world was never black and white for Ethel Ochres. Her eccentric psyche always distinguished everything in grey, neither good nor bad. As a diligent student of psychology, she was enthralled with the human minds and the malicious trickery that th...

Taking a long drag of the cigarette, I had slowly let the smoke escape through my lips. A smoldering sensation resided in my throat and it was addictive, to say the least.
As I ran my fingers through my tangled black hair, my gaze ambled towards the campus gate while I leaned against the tree opposite of it, smoking away. There was a subtle breeze in today's weather as, during October, Florida's climate usually stayed tepid, neither too harsh nor heated.
Several cars began to station in the parking lot of our university, all of them were of the latest version. It didn't come as a shocker to me as it was a wonted sight when you were a student of one of the most prestigious academies of the country.
Pretentious and spoiled rich kids with their lavish assets were meant to be here or else how would have the affluent parents show off their riches?
Throwing the cigarette on the ground, I stomped on it. Just as I sauntered through the entrance, a car whisked away, passing me. I instantly knew who was it. Viridian had enclosed his car door with a thud, an aloof utterance rested on his devilishly striking face as always.
His eyes illustrated his name perfectly, dark green colored with a gelid spark. As if possessing the body of a Greek God and an impeccable face wasn't enough for him that he even had to have the rarest eye color as well.
For a split second, he caught me eyeing him while getting out of his car but he didn't pay much heed to it as he was used to the attention. Being in this institute for nearly 4 years, whether people adored or detested him, they all knew him, at least that was what I discerned since my freshman year.
Not feeling even a tad bit ashamed after getting caught, I strolled to my car to get my stuff which was perched right beside Viridian's one.
"Vir! Please hear me out for once, I beg you." Amelia, his current girlfriend of this month, cried out as she hurried to him. This made my pace slower as I momentarily took a glance at her. Tear-stained cheeks and disheveled hair graced her. Once a lover of perfection was now unkempt.
"You always have to embarrass me and play the sympathy card in the public for attention, don't you, Amelia?" Viridian whisper-yelled as he glared at her menacingly before clutching her arm in a harsh grip, tugging her inside the campus.
During all this time, she just kept her head hung low, wiping her salty tears away while the people on campus watched them attentively and gossiped among themselves about the earlier scene. Some defended him and well, some talked shit about him. I on the other hand sneakily followed them, why? Because why not?
Okay, I might have appeared like a stalker, and well, I wouldn't defend myself saying that I wasn't one but blame it on my obsession with devious people and it wasn't like the romantic infatuation. Rather I always found them intriguing, how they could lie through their teeth yet the sufferer wouldn't even realize it, how they mastered the art of gaslighting to the point one couldn't even believe their own words.
Hiding behind one of the pillars, I curiously eavesdropped on their conversation. I think at this point I should have just joined Keeping Up With The Kardashians, I would have been a great replacement for Kris Jenner.
Viridian pushed her hard against the wall in the corner, making a whimper escape from her, God bless her back. Instead of being furious for his scathing behavior, Amelia just gazed at him with guilt-filled eyes.
"So you are still going to France for that stupid ballet school, aren't you?" He sneered, holding her chin up to make her teary eyes contact with his hostile ones.
"V-Vir, please you need to understand, this is very important for my career. People don't get an internship there easily." She tried to reason with him but he just scoffed at her before an embittered laugh broke out from him,
Let me tell you a fact about Viridian Goldenrod, when he laughed during an argument, it was more ominous than Donald Trump winning the elections.
"So your career is more important than your relationship? Is this how much my love means to you, Amy?" His voice loosened up slightly as hurt flashed across his face. I had to resist the urge to laugh my ass off at the moment, aguilt trip at its finest.
"I love you a lot, Vir, more than you can imagine. Please give long distance a chance. I know we can work it out, baby." Amelia breathed, cupping his face gently but he shoved her away, making her yelp.
"To hell with your long-distance! You fucking choose your stupid career over me. You are just like the other girls who only knew how to damage me and my trust. I fucking trusted you, Amelia! But you broke it." He fumed as his body shook in visible anger before his expression turned stone-cold.
"You know what? I am done with you. I always have forgiven you for your stupidity but not anymore. Don't contact me again unless you want a restraining order against you and I don't think that will be of any help in your university records." Viridian asserted and his face void of any emotions, conveying that he was indeed serious about it.
"Please don't leave me. I promise I will even decline that offer! Vir, I can't live without you." She pleaded, clutching his arm in desperation. Her tears were now unstoppable as sheer fear plastered on her face. He didn't even bother to spare her a glance as he pushed off her hands before walking away.
Unwitting grief resided in my chest as I saw Amelia sitting on the floor, crying her heart out and tugging her hair back, unconsciously mumbling how all of this was her fault. I wanted to console her but I couldn't have let her know that I was here.
Letting out a sigh, I tried to shun the tug in my heart. Turning around I made my way to my class while unknowingly my gaze wandered into the crowd in search of Viridian.
Well if my analysis of his cycle was right, then since he broke up with Amelia for the third time now, it means he finally got bored of her or found his new naive victim, so this time he was serious about the breakup.
Don't know about the cat, but curiosity surely would be the death of me one day.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
Finally I have updated the first chapter! This is the first time I am writing a book of romance genre and I kinda felt awkward with it because if any of you are a reader of my first book, then you know what's my usual type 😂 but I tried my best here. It took me one month to write this one chapter because
A) I was out of town for more than 20 days
B) I wasn't confident enough about this book.
But thanks to Xaprith andThe_Adorable-Weirdo who were kind enough to review the chapter in advance. Their reviews did boosted my confidence.
Also, halfway through the chapter, I realized I used your name for my character Amelia_Rosexxx so congrats on your breakup?😂
Anyways love y'all ♥️🤍🖤💜💙💛🧡❤️💚
