Flash back

I wobbled through the vacant hallway of the hotel room as the water settled in my eyes made it difficult for me to see where I was heading. I splashed against the elevator door, obliterating my right hand against its buttons until the door finally opened and I swooped in. The sound of my loud panting created strange commotion around. My legs felt weak as if they were being stung by the bees and the heart kept on defying to beat but I knew deep down that I needed him and for that I can't lose him.

I rushed outside the hotel breathing convulsively in my bathrobe and waited impatiently; taking the first TAXI, I could find.

I let out a deep breath and shrieked in a tousled tone, "To- to the air port"

---------------------------

I walked towards him closing my fist tightly; digging my nails into the skin assuring myself that it's not just a dream because after all, in these past 2 years, I've seen him standing like this almost every night in my dream.
I was just about to reach him when he moved forward and slid passed me.

"Ma'am! These are the documents you asked for. We have successfully persuaded Mr. Anderson in selling his bar", I could hear his coarse voice from behind, followed by mom's cackle - I don't even know why I still call her that.

"Lovely- just lovely! You're one useful man. I have been after that bar for months but that filthy mice was not ready to sell it", I turned my head around as I saw that witch sit on her chair and Daniel smooching her hand like one of her loyal pets. She then looked at me and continued, "Mr. Smith! She's your new task. Deal with her and make sure she comes back to her senses."

I gazed up unknowingly and our eyes met. Years later, his eyes still capable of piercing my heart but something was different this time or nothing was same as before.

Later that day; In the Police station...

I briskly dashed through the half open door of our local police station and landed straight on the officers' desk.....

"Nahh-ahh! Not this time miss! Visiting time is over," she exclaimed while moving her way through some files.

"I-ummm-I was" I harked back to few hours, Daniel giving me almost every single stakeholders' file to assess on mom's call.

"Just this lil time Emma!" I joined my hands and pleaded desperately while she looked away, almost unbothered, "You know I can hook you up with that handsome Mexican police man from the neighboring town, I can obviously get him transferred here in no time"

She dragged the door open and took out the keys, "Well this is not for you, It is for him. He had been waiting for you since days," she voiced gently looking straight at me in the eye, her eyes telling me the truth- the one I had been defying for 2 years, "It is his last night here anyways. We'll be sending him to asylum for few days before"

She paused for a sec before she tossed the keys to the policeman who guided me through these shady corridors which had been my least favorite paths nevertheless I was still bound to cross them because they leaded me to my only happy place.

The officer stopped and I stood behind him; still scared to look at him... The person I used to call "dad".

I could see his silhouette at the corner of the room, playing with his toys. He flung towards the  glass mirror as he saw me and started blabbering stuff, which for obvious reasons I didn't get. His eyes as teary as I mine. Still he had been strong, I wasn't, never had been. His mental state was still out of order. 1 years at the state's prison had impacted his mind severely. It is always hard for me to see him like this; alone, accused, deserted.

I pressed my palm firmly against my face, wiping my face and waved him a good bye and he did back.

-------------------------

I took a sip of tequila from the bottle and headed into my room which was already open. Things were wandering in and out of my mind and I still couldn't believe the fact that he is here. Just as I swooped the door, I saw Daniel, standing in the balcony. I steadily stepped towards him, somehow more confident this time.....

I stood there, infront of him as he held my chin affirmingly....Just when I was going to say his name, his face motioned near mine, his breath softly caressing my face.....

"I promised that I will return!"
