Bottled feelings

"A birthday gala?" Henry said chuckling over the phone "yes and you'll be there, right?" The general asked. Henry is trying to eat his spaghetti but is failing; he's getting weird looks from Ellie across the room.(oh yeah, Henry ran into Ellie again and helped her out)

"Sickmin, I want you to be there" the general said in a serious tone. Henry paused stood up then stepped out of the room leaving a very confused redhead. "Is Charles going to be there?" Henry asks hesitantly "I think so, he said he will be" the general replied.

Henry could feel the little butterflies of hope flutter in him. Only to be squash by the fact that Charles might not want to see him. "Henry?" Galeforce questioned concerned. Henry shook his head back to reality and said "yeah sorry, I kinda spaced out. I'll be there"

"Good, maybe bring a plus one?" The general asked suggestively "I have a friend she'll come if she wants." He replies nonchalantly. They chatted a little more and said their goodbyes.

Henry goes back to the couch to eat his spaghetti. Ellie breaks the silence "who's Charles?" Henry almost spits out his food but instead harshly swallows. "You heard me?" "We have thin walls." She answers matter of factly "you sounded like he was someone special" Henry looks to his food then back at the redhead."ahh what the hell I guess I'll tell you."

Flashbacks

"Henry! Henry! Look look look!" Charles said excitedly holding up his phone while jumping onto the ex-con's back. Henry being surprised just smiles and grabs the phone to hold onto the pilot on his back "Calm down." Charles stopped and took a deep breath "ok I'm calm now, lookatthepicture!" He spit out quickly. Henry sighed moving the pilot to his hip and reopened the pilots phone.

"You still remember my passcode?" Charles joked but went to confused when Henry said locking eyes "if its about you, I always remember"

Three months later

"This is Charles with the greatest plan leave a message and I'll get back to ya" beeeeep "hey Charles, you haven't talked to me for awhile and I just want to make sure you're okay." Henry paused  "Please call me back this time" and ended the voicemail.

A week later

"General, you called for me?" "Yes, I just wanted you to know that Charlie put in a transfer request and it was accepted" Henry's eyes popped wide open "he left about two hours ago" and Henry collapsed. "Henry!" The general rushed to the taller male's side.

One month later

Henry walks into the tent again with yet another partner "I can't work with him! He's to reckless!" his partner yelled at the general "You're the third person to say that" Galeforce said calmly knowing that they just don't agree with how Henry gets the job done.

Two weeks later

"What's wrong Stikmin?" Galeforce asked while henry sat across from him. "Do I have to stay anymore?" Henry said looking up to the general. Galeforce sighed "you can leave anytime you want" Henry goes to stand up "but please don't disappear. I do enjoy talking to you." Henry nodded and left.

A year later

Henry picks up the phone "yes Galeforce?" Henry asked "This is our monthly call don't give me that sass and I'm still a general." "Oh I'm sorry, I thought you would've retired by now. You probably should you're getting grumpy" Henry replied playfully. "I can just not tell you what me and Charles talked about earlier" Henry got scared "Wait wait wait!"

End of flashbacks

"And you have no idea why he left?" Ellie asked genuinely curious. Henry looked at her shaking his head. "Neither does Galeforce, I mean at first I thought he was just embarassed by what I said but he would tell me if something didn't sit right with him" Ellie leans back on the couch they were sitting on. "I mean I figured you were.." Henry finishs her sentence "Bi?" "uh huh" Ellie said.

"And it wasn't sudden either, at first he just stopped talking to me on base" He stands up and starts pacing."After that he stopped responding on social medias" Ellie prepares for something she's never witnessed. "Then he stopped returning calls and texts" he starts getting riled up pacing faster "Then he blocks me on everything!" He stopped looking at Ellie his lip is quivering a tear rolling down his cheek "Next thing I know..." his voice cracks "he requests a transfer...and leaves" Henry couldn't control the tears from falling "without *hic* even *hic* saying goodbye."

Ellie didn't know what to say if you don't wanna be friends with someone you tell them. You don't leave them with the questions that are running through Henry's head. "I'm sorry" she said quietly.

"Its not your fault." Henry said choking a sob. "I mean it has to be mine I shouldn't have said anything" Henry couldn't stop the flow of words that were coming out of his mouth. "I should've just kept my mouth shut. But nooooo I just have to feel soooo safe around him like I can tell him anything. Like everything just perfectly aligns around him like nothing could hurt me. But something could, someone could. HE could and he did and I never got the chance to tell him how I felt and still feel about him or how hurt he left me" Henry falls to the floor tears streaming down his face with uncontrollable sobs. Trying to wipe away the tears.

Ellie immediately jumps to her usually calm friend's side and pulls him into an embrace and starts rubbing circles on his back. She hears him quietly through sobs "What did I do wrong?" "Did I do something he didn't like?" "Did I offend him?" "What did I do?" She cut him off pulling his face to look him in the eyes and said "you didn't do anything wrong Henry, sounds like he was separating himself from you" Henry sniffled and hiccupped out "why?" The redhead sighed "I don't know why Henry" she hugs him closer and whispers again "I don't know"
