First Day (Part 5) - Chapter 5

This 'First Day' thing is taking longer and ending up with more parts than I expected. Whoops. Daily mood update - it's a dreary moody day. Life sucks, even tho it's supposed to be getting better. I hope your day's been good.

Also, I think I've decided on a quirk. Possibly.

Lunch, like the walk there, had been filled with grins and laughter. Denki made stupid jokes, Bakugo yelled at people, and the various 'squads' talked together. Kirishima explained that there is the 'Bakusquad' and 'Dekusquad' that tend to take up most of the limelight. Then there is the rest of the class that kind of just chills and hangs out together like a ginormous chaotic family.

Once we were back at the dorms, the bakusquad ended up hanging out in the main room on the first floor, with Shinso and I apparently sticking with them for the day. Kaminari, Mina, and Kiri were in the middle of a very intense argument on whether or not pineapple was acceptable on pizza, when Shinso suddenly spoke up. "What's that?"

We all looked over, and he was pointing at a small whiteboard attached to the wall.

Kaminari blinked

Kaminari blinked. "Oh. That's our... uh... I actually don't know what to call it. We keep track of how many days it's been since the last villain attack, and what our longest and shortest stretch between attacks were."

Kirishima nodded. "See, it's been 42 days since a villain attack or fight, which is also our longest recorded time yet, and our shortest recorded time was 2 days. That was when Bakugo was kidnapped."

Shinso blinked. "42 days? that's the longest time between attacks? What is up with your class?"

Mina shrugged. "We have no idea. But we've been on guard for a while since it's usually not this long. Our class is some sort of villain magnet, with All Might and Midorya."

I frowned. "Midorya? I can get All Might attracting villains, but why him?"

Kirishima shrugged. "Don't know. Midorya has some sort of connection with All Might, and he also is apparently completely unable to not interfere with things. He was super involved in just about every attack there's been."

Kaminari nodded. "Dude, it's so weird, but every time there's a villain attack he's somehow involved or gets involved."

Bakugo snorts. "That's because the damn nerd won't stay out of other people's buisness."

I stood up, suddenly feeling vaguely uneasy. "I'm going to go up to my room. I still have some unpacking and what not to do."

Kaminari blinked. "Really? Shoot, see you later then!"

I stepped out of the room and stood outside the door for a minute, catching my breath. It'd felt like we'd crossed the line from easy-going conversation to gossip, and it reminded me that I didn't want to get on anybody's bad side in this class. It would probably be best to talk a little bit to everybody, come off as kind and slightly nervous, and then keep to myself. Being sort of an outsider for so long in 1E had made me a bit anti-social, and I wasn't about to screw anything up.

But then I heard their voices from inside the common room.

"Look what you extras did. You chased her away talking about villains." Bakugo?

I could practically hear Kaminari frown. "Did we? She said she still had to unpack though?"

Which was technically true.

"I don't know, maybe she just didn't want to talk anymore. We have been hanging around her all day." Kirishima sounded vaguely worried, and I couldn't help but anxiously wonder if they thought I was weird now.

Oh, jeezum, am I eavesdropping now? Come on, Sayo, get yourself together. I shook my head and headed up the stairs, deciding it would be worse to try to go back in than to give it up and go back to my room. I did have unpacking to do. I ended up deciding to pretend I'd never heard the conversation. They hadn't said anything wrong anyways.

---------

One of the songs from earlier was stuck in my head again, and while unpacking I'd ended up giving in to it. I pulled it up on my phone playing it on my headphones as I shoved furniture and gradually emptied boxes. I hummed along, occasionally mouthing the words as I went.

Yeah, some days, I just wanna leave the negativity in my head

I just want relief from my stress

I just want relief from my stress

Some days, I don't wanna see or

Have a bunch of people to impress

I just want relief from my stress

Yeah, I just want relief from my stress

(My Stress, NF, 2019)

I sighed, glancing around the room. I'd ended up with my furniture pushed into groups, with corners for specific moods and activities. I mentally labeled them. Tired, homework, painting, drawing, 3D art, reading, physical activity, getting ready, and bored.

There were still a few boxes to unpack, filled with paper, canvases, and clothes, but for now I'd decided I'd done enough. It was nearing dinner, and I should probably clean up and get downstairs before someone came knocking.

I shoved away the thought that wondered idly why I didn't want anyone to see my room.

I sighed and pushed the leftover boxes against an empty wall, out of the way. I headed down the stairs to the kitchen area. When I'd made my way down the stairs, I was met with the sight of the dekusquad and Denki talking idly in the dining area, somehow ignoring the extravagant amount of yelling coming from the kitchen where apparently the rest of the bakusquad was watching Bakugo cook.

Midorya grinned and waved me over. "Hey, Sayo! Bakugo's making dinner, so if you want you can sit with us while we wait!"

I smiled back and sat between him and Iida, who was apparently in the middle of an argument with Denki.

Iida sighed. "You can't keep doing this."

Denki shrugged. "I don't see what the big deal is."

"Throwing your clothes on a chair instead of putting them away is incredibly disorganized!" Iida said strictly, doing his strange choppy arm thing.

"I find the shirt I'm looking for eventually-"

"They get wrinkled!"

"Not trying to impress anybody."

"It makes your room look like a mess!"

"To match with the rest of my life!" Denki grinned. "Look, even if you were right, I don't have the energy to care, so there's not a reason that you could give to make me want to-"

Shinso appeared at the foot of the stairs. "When you wake up in the middle of the night it looks like a dude is just sitting there watching you."

Denki sweatdropped, and Uraraka burst into laughter.

Idea stolen from a TikTok that used a Thomas Sanders audio:

Bakugo stomped out of the kitchen. "Dinner's ready, you damn extras!"

Wee bit of a filler chapter, I think, but yeah. I love that TikTok and Thomas Sanders, btw. See you when I see you! (1170 words - still manages to feel too short)
