Walking inside the elevator, I pressed the button a little too hard. As soon as the doors closed, my mind was again filled with images of Ethan. Ethan with his arms wrapped around a beautiful girl, to be more precise. On the way to my apartment, I tried really hard to block out these images to remain alert while walking alone but now that I am safe and all alone in this elevator, I can't get the image of the girl kissing his neck out of my head.
It was not a view I had in my mind when I stepped inside the house. I was there to surprise Ethan, not to get shocked. This night wasn't supposed to play out like the way it did.
The emotions that resurfaced tonight when I set my eyes on that gorgeous platinum blonde were neither acknowledged nor welcomed. They could stay right where they were, buried deep inside.
The worst part is, I can't really figure out whether I am more pissed at him or myself? Ethan Knight is an asshole. An asshole who flirts with you and then hooks up with someone else. But then again, we aren't together. Why am I getting so affected by this?
Okay then, it's sorted. Ethan, with a girl wrapped around him, is fine. Perfectly fine because he is not my boyfriend.
Even after convincing myself that it didn't matter, I couldn't let go of the gloomy feeling in my chest.
I was about to unlock the door of my apartment when I heard footsteps. Running. On the stairs. Our apartment is on the fifteenth floor. Who in their right mind runs up fifteen sets of stairs?
Ignoring it, I started unlocking the door but before I could push it open; I heard a certain someone call my name, making me close my eyes in annoyance.
Great! Just great!
"Iris..." Ethan said softly, but it was hard to say anything softly when you are panting.
Turning around, I took a moment to look at him. He was still wearing the same clothes, and they weren't crumpled or creased, but his hair, on the other hand, was a complete mess.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, maintaining my composure when all I wanted to do was smash his head in the nearest fucking wall.
I sound like a fucking jealous ex. Oh, fuck no!
"It isn't what it looked like." He said, cautiously taking a step towards me.
"What are you talking about?" I asked, playing stupid.
I am not his girlfriend. We are not dating. I can't ask for answers. Neither do I want to. I repeated all these sentences in my head again and again.
"I think you know what I am talking about." He said confidently, calling me out.
"No. I don't." I said monotonously and turned around to open the door. Hopefully, having a door between us would end this conversation.
As I stepped inside the apartment, I threw my bag on the table beside the door. Taking out my phone from the bag, I didn't bother switching it on because I don't want to deal with a flood of text right now.
