The next morning. I woke up very early. I wrote a note for Draco. Placed it on his bedside table. Gave him a kiss. Looked at him one last time to savour the moment and walked out.
That evening was the final task. I had asked Cedric to meet me in the morning at our usual place.
I changed into my uniform robe and went to the stairs. He was already there.
"Hey!" He said as he stood up. I went in and hugged him.
"It's been a while." I said. "Are you prepared?
"I don't know. Mostly nervous" he said.
"You're the best wizard I've ever seen. You'll win this thing." I said.
He smiled and looked at me goofily and said "So, what's going on? You and Draco?"
I laughed, " I don't know." I said. "He's really not that bad. Not to me at least. He's very sweet."
"Whatever you say..." he said and chuckled. " I hope he doesn't break your heart."
"I hope he doesn't. Or I'll have to break his pretty face." I joked.
We laughed.
"How's Cho?"
"She's fine. We're really going well. I'm going to tell her I love her when I win this thing." He said.
I put an arm around him and gave him a hug.
"I'm happy for you." I said.
He put his arm around me and said "you too. You're the best friend I ever had."
We stood there and watched the sun rise until it was time for him to go to the last meeting for the champions.
"Good luck!" I said. "Don't get hurt!"
"I won't." He said. Waved at me and ran to the hall.
———

We were getting ready to go out. I met Harry in the common room. I hugged him.
"Good luck Harry. Bring that cup home."
He smiled

I stepped out of the common room and saw Draco waiting for me. Scaring first year Gryffindors and making faces at them.
I sighed. Stepped forward and smacked him on the back of his head. He laughed. "Sorry" he said and gave me a peck on my cheek. He held my hand and we walked to the grounds.
Luna sat next to me and Draco. She painted her face with the Hogwarts crest. She asked if she could paint mine. I let her paint a stripe of Hogwarts colours on my cheek.
"You look quite pretty now." She said dreamily as she finished painting.
We saw the champions come out and we cheered!
A few minutes later, they vanished into the maze.

———
The first one to come out of the maze was Fleur. She looked terrified.
The next, Krum. Hogwarts roared because that meant the last 2 were Cedric and Harry. Both from Hogwarts. We had won!!

After about 30 minutes! Harry apparated with Cedric and the cup! Everyone cheered. Until....

Until Harry fell to the ground and started crying. I saw Cedric's face. His eyes open. His mouth still gaping. Looking blank. He didn't move!
"Nooo!!!!" I screamed as I ran forward. Mr Diggory had already reached Cedric. I ran towards him and fell to the ground! I touched his hand. They were cold as could be.
Draco pulled me up as Cedric's mother and Cho came forward. Dumbledore sent everyone to the castle. I couldn't move. I sat on the ground. My eyes still on his lifeless body.
I didn't mean you could die when I said don't get hurt!
The look on his face made him look so peaceful.
"Mr Malfoy, please take Miss Berkeley to the Great hall." Dumbledore said as he ran towards the castle with Snape and professor Mcgonagall. They were moving his body. Draco pulled me up and walked me towards the castle.
My heart, my chest, my whole body felt heavy. I couldn't move. All I saw was Cedric's face. Flashes of when I saw him last before the tournament and now. How warm his hug felt when I last wished him good luck and now when I last touched his cold lifeless body. Tears streamed down my face. I was uncontrollable. I saw Cho walking in front of me. Just as uncontrollably crying. Draco pulled me as I walked. He kept saying something but I couldn't hear anything. We reached the great hall. He sat me on a bench on the Slytherin table. He asked everyone to stay away. Hermione came running. He let her in.
She hugged me and we cried. I did not remember the last time I had cried. It just wasn't me to cry. But tonight I just couldn't control myself. Hermione stood me up and to walked me to the Gryffindor common room. Draco hugged me one last time. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He said. I could feel him shivering. I walked away.
———
The next day, we gathered in the great hall to listen to Dumbledore.
It was Barty Crouch Jr who had been pretending to be Moony. And it was Voldemort who killed Cedric. Draco's hand tightened on mine when he heard Voldemort's name. I could feel fear in him. I placed my head on his shoulder as it continued.
———
It was end of the year again. I said goodbyes to my friends at Beauxbatons and went up to Cedric and my corner. I took up a copy of Macbeth with me and placed it on the stair where he would sit for hours reading. Warm tears escaped my eyes as I felt someone's arm around me. I hoped it would be Cedric's but it wasn't. Draco wrapped me into a hug.
"Things will never be the same again, will they?" I asked.
He didn't react but only tightened his arms around me. Harry had been mentioning how Lucius Malfoy was one of the death eaters at the graveyard where Cedric died. I could feel sadness in Draco and he was scared.
———
We boarded the train and left for home. Though, this time around it wasn't Renee, but my mother who waited for me at the station. She wrapped me up in a big hug as I stepped off the train. I turned around, hugged Draco, said goodbye and turned to my mother. I saw them exchanging silent nods. We left for home.
