{Prologue} Book 1: The gate at the back of the forest
森の奥にある門ですThere was a gate not that far away from the orphanage that no child was permitted to go near unless they had been adopted and their mom was escorting them there, more often than not, humming a song that she had known since she was a child. So why were there Four children around the age of six there without the obligation to be there? Simple. Curiosity.
A small, Golden-eyed girl approached the gate slowly and clasped both of her hands around it. ''Hey guys...What is this?'' She asked the two boys and girl next to her. One of the boys also walked towards the gate, looking at the Blue haired girl before clasping his own small hands around the bars of the gate.
''It's a gate. It connects the inside and outside.'' The tunnel passed the gate was dark, almost gloomy looking. It was definitely not a place that would attract a child to travel through. ''Outside? We've never been outside before...'' The other girl stated. Sure, They've read about the outside world in the books they had within the orphanage and honestly? The two girls thought it sounded amazing.
The other boy looked at her as she said that, his White hair blowing in the wind. ''That's because we've been here since being born.'' He replied. There was a pause. The blue-haired girl, who had previously been looking at her White haired friend, turned back around to the gate, staring into the darkness with bright eyes and a wide smile. Her tiny body could almost squeeze through the bars by the looks of it.
''So this is what Mom always tells us about? Never go near the gate or the fence at the back of the forest because it's dangerous.'' She recited the rule that the three had heard multiple times from their caretaker word for word.
''She says that, but it's not true.'' The Black haired boy, the oldest of the four, said. He clearly knew a lot about the gate but even at this point, he didn't know what exactly it meant. ''It's not?'' The youngest of the boys. Why would their mom lie to them about the gate being dangerous if it wasn't?
''Hey, Ray!'' The oldest of the two girls called out. ''What would you do outside?'' She asked the black haired boy. ''I don't know...'' He muttered, looking towards the ground for a minute before looking back up and asking: ''You, Emma?'' The Orange haired girl looked back into the dim tunnel before yelling out: ''I want to ride a Giraffe with Avi!'' Aviana smiled after hearing that. ''Yes!'' She called out.
''Good luck.'' The forest green eyed boy stated sarcastically whilst looking away from the gate and into the forest.
''This gate...'' The boy with white hair muttered, reaching out a hand and clasping it around one of the bars of the gate. ''You know...I wonder what it's really keeping us protected from...'' After hearing that, Aviana titled her head in thought.
