"I keep my head high
I got my wings to carry me
I don't know freedom
I want my dreams to rescue me
I keep my face strong
I ask the lord to follow me
I've been unfaithful
I don't know why you call on me. . ."

Dismissing the stank looks, glares and warning glances all given by Safaree, Aubrey narrowed it down to a good day.

He left Onika's house with his head in tact, seeing as the way Safaree was staring at him it seemed as if he wanted to tear it off.

But, all things considering, he enjoyed himself. Onika and her producers decided on releasing Moment 4 Life next month--January--, and he was beyond excited to make the music video to release in February. They were going to start in a week.

At the moment, Aubrey was driving back to his mom's. His phone began to vibrate in the passenger seat. Never taking his eyes off the road, he grabbed for it and answered. "Hello?"

"Hey, big head."

"Jhené." He smiled. "What's up?"

"Just checking in. How'd it go?"

"Eh."

Jhené snorted. "'Eh'? Just 'eh'?"

"'Eh' meaning that it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good, either."

"Uh-oh. Big bad wolf givin' you trouble?"

He paused. "You could say that."

"You're not scared of him, are you?"

Aubrey's eyebrows shot up. "What? No!" He turned into his mother's driveway. "It's just. . . I want him to back the fuck off. Like, it's not like I'm doing anything to Nicki. I haven't even fucked her or anything--"

"But you want to."

"--right." He got out of the car and locked it. He kept the phone to one ear as he fumbled for the house key in his jean pocket. "It's just kind of fucked up. We used to be tight, you know? Now he act like he got a problem with me. What did I ever do to him, huh?"

"Exactly my point. Maybe you should just talk to him about it."

Aubrey scoffed, pulling the key from his pocket and sticking it in the doorknob. "Tuh! Right. That's gonna happen."

"Man up, big head."

"Fuck you too," Aubrey joked as he pushed open the door.

"Aubrey, you know I don't like that language," said a soft voice from the couch. Sandi slightly inclined her head towards him, her brown eyes flashing with warning.

Aubrey cringed. "Oops. Sorry, Ma." He closed the door.

Sandi just clucked her tongue. "Don't let it happen again."

Aubrey walked over and placed a kiss on her cheek. "You have fun without me?"

"A little. My show went off, so I'm stuck watching this." She gestured  with the remote to a fitness channel, where two men and two women were currently doing crunches. She shook her head. "The man in the background keeps staring at the black girl's butt whenever she does squats. That's the only entertainment here."
