Your eyelids feel sticky as you wring your hands slowly underneath the warm running water, washing off yet another coating of blood. You had been healing and working with the wounded through the night, and long past the sun peaked above the horizon. It had been roughly 12 hours of nonstop healing, and you felt like you were floating. You knew there were only a few more who required your help, and you were determined to finish before curling up in your soft blankets and letting sleep overtake you. Constantly transferring your life force energy, and with very little time to regenerate it, caused you to feel dizzy and weak. You knew you should stop, but you were so close...
From behind where you stood, washing your hands thoroughly, you heard the entrance to your tent flap open, allowing someone to step inside. You hold back a heavy sigh.
"Please make yourself comfortable and try to relax. I'll be there to help in a second." You murmur, drying your hands quickly.
"Actually, I think you're the one who needs helping." Comes the clear, lovely voice from behind.
You feel your systems zap back to life as you whirl around.
"Rey!" You exclaim, rushing forward to embrace her tightly. Her firm arms encircled you, leaving you to wish to melt into them. She was so strong, mentally and physically, and you admired her greatly for it. Once she releases you, she sets her hands squarely on your shoulders, and looks down at you with her gentle, dark eyes. She lets her gaze run over you before she pushes her lips together in an effort not to laugh.
"You look awful, Em." She states bluntly, sitting down, and gesturing for you to do the same.
You roll your eyes at her playfully. "I'm fine. But how are you?? Did you ever find what you were looking for?" You stifle a yawn, wondering if you could force your eyes to open past half lid.
Rey hesitates for a moment, before leaning in, her expression serious, but urgent.
"I'm not supposed to tell anyone this," she begins on her enchanting accent,
"But I tell you everything." She gives you a small smile. You smile back, perking up a little: excited to hear this top secret information. She turns to look behind her, ensuring that no one is listening. She leans closer, and her eyes glitter as she whispers,
"I found the map to Skywalker."
Your eyebrows shoot up. You knew that this had been her goal, but you also knew that the chances of finding the map to Luke Skywalker were very low. "Are you serious??" You keep your tone hushed even though you are excited.
"Yes. It's in a BB unit, and it can take us to him. We have the droid here with us right now!"
You process this. She had really done it. She had really found Luke Skywalker, and the key to him was right here at the rebel base.
"Rey...that's incredible!!" You squeal for excitement with her.
"I know! We'll find him far before the First Order does. Han and I leave first thing tomorrow morning."
Your face falls a little. You had always wanted to go on grand adventures and important missions with Rey, but you always had to stay back. You had just gotten your best friend back, and now she was leaving again. She must have been able to read your expression, because she put a hand lightly on your arm.
"Em, you really do look exhausted. I think you should go lie down and rest-"
She is cut off by the sound of an explosion echoing through the air with a loud boom. You jolt. Then, you hear it. The whining whistle of TIE fighters approaching. Your stomach drops to your toes. Rey is already on her feet, and you follow seconds after. The two of you bolt out of the tent to survey the skies.
"What's going on??" Demands Rey to the nearest man running to arm himself.
"It's the First Order! We have a spy among us and they relayed  the message that you had returned with the map to Skywalker! They're after you! Get in the bunker, now!!" He shouts over the noise of all too familiar explosions. Without a word, she sprints in the direction of the bunker. You crease your brown in worry. If too many people ran to the bunker, that would be a dead giveaway to where the sanctuary was, and ultimately lead right to Rey. You decided that instead, you would run away from the open clearing under attack. You raced into the nearby forest, dodging trees and shrubbery. You heard a large engine in the clearing. You turned around to see a large first order ship landing right in the center of the open field. The ship was shot at with blasters, but the blasts ricocheted off the metal ship, and had to be dodged. The ramp slowly descended, and a figure stepped out. Your stomach churned.
Kylo Ren, commander of the First Order, second only to Supreme Leader Snoke himself, emerged from the ship: his infamous red lightsaber ignited, casting off the blasts flawlessly. You watched horrified as the tall, dark, masked creature strolled forward. He extended his gloved hand, and the captain of resistance defense flew through the air, his throat colliding with the commanders gloved palm, visibly knocking any air out of him.
"Hold your fire!" You hear someone shout. The captain. who Kylo Ren is now using as a shield, is now in the direct line of fire.
"Where. Is. The girl." Comes the distorted demand. You watched as the captain gags and gasps for air, his feet kicking beneath him; begging his lungs for air. He refuses to respond.
"I'll wait."
You stare from behind a tree for minutes on end, watching the captains face slowly turn purple. It makes you sick to your stomach. His windpipe is only moments away from being snapped: you can tell. You close your eyes. You hope that Rey is safe. You plead with the forces of the universe that someone will just shoot that monster, and that they never find out about the the map to Skywalker in that droid. You wondered where the droid was now...
Suddenly, you see the commander lift his head and cock it to one side, as if listening for something. He remains like that for a few moments before he releases his grip on the captains throat, leaving him to collapse breathless to the ground. Your head swims with confusion. You watch the dark Sith turn his head, until the cold metal mask faces you. Chills race down your back. He takes a few steps in your direction. Your body screams at you to run as fast as you can, but you are frozen in fear.
"Move out, and prepare for departure. Forget the girl." He growls as he approaches where you stand petrified.
"We have what we need."
It hits you like a baseball bat to the head. The commander was notorious for being able to probe the mind of anyone he wanted, and hear their thoughts. Your thoughts had betrayed you. You had given away that you knew Reys secret.
Your legs move before your brain tells them to. Your limbs feel like rubber as they hit the forest floor, sprinting as fast as you can away from the dark figure chasing you. He is relentless, keeping a steady pace. You try to lose him around large trees and forks in the path, but your legs are slowing down. Your body is running on no sleep, and pure exhaustion threatens to overtake you. Your knees wobble, and you stumble over a tree root. You close your eyes, your body shutting down. Everything is a blur. You feel his presence right next to you without even opening your eyes.
You feel his hand yank your shoulder toward him, and you open your eyes. The last thing you see is the cold steel helmet leering down at your paling face, before you watch his large gloved hand raise. With a flick of his fingers, your knees buckle, your mind goes blank, and you feel your back hitting his solid arm, and legs swept up in his other, before everything goes black.
