MYSTIC FALLS WAS SO VERY DIFFERENT SINCE ARLYSE HAD BEEN ASLEEP. People had weird gadgets that were rectangle-shaped, and women were wearing the most peculiar clothing. Tunics that didn't look like tunics, and trousers that were tight and shorter. If a woman did have on a dress, it was sleeveless and short. It confused the girl greatly, but she didn't mind it all. In fact, Arlyse was quite excited to wear one of those tunics and those really tight trousers.
Damon and Stefan would have also been intrigued. Damon and Stefan. The thought of her brothers sent more tears to her eyes. How could she ever live without them? How? Her brothers were her best friends, her partners in crime. Damon covered for Arlyse whenever she was doing the utmost unladylike things, and disobeying her governess. Stefan was there for her when she went off to watch the men shoot their rifles at the birds.
Arlyse had spent her entire life with them, how could she navigate this entirely unfamiliar and strange world without her rocks? The simple answer was she probably couldn't. Arlyse walked blindly around town, blinking as the warm sun heated her far too heavy dress. People were staring at her, frowning at what they probably thought was her peculiarity.
Arlyse blinked at them, her mind racing. A popular place people were walking into was Mystic Grill, something that wasn't even around when Arlyse was alive. What year was it again? Her mind scoured. 2010. She had been asleep, underground for over a century and a half. Tears sprung to her eyes, and she sniffled. She had never been like this, never prone to crying easily or lashing out. God, she teased the entirety of Stefan whenever he so much as shared his feelings. But now she was doing the same thing, she was a major fucking hypocrite. Could women cuss freely nowadays?
"Hi, I just wanted to say, I absolutely love your costume!" Arlyse turned around to see a perky blonde, and a black-haired girl standing next to her with a frown.
"Costume?" Arlyse asked with a frown.
The blonde laughed, and the black-haired girl frowned even more, "Yes, your dress, the dirt! It's all a very Victorian horror movie. Maybe Hitchcocky!"
Arlyse frowned at the girl. "What's a movie, and who's Hitchcocky?" She mumbled to herself. Oh, how this world is very confusing.
"It's...very Victorian." The black-haired girl said with something Arlyse thought was a realization.
"Thank you?" Arlyse questioned with a frown. She couldn't really tell if the blonde was complimenting her.
Apparently, that was the best thing Arlyse could say because the blonde's smile widened even more. Wow, Arlyse getting social cues right. The statement alone was laughable. The black-haired girl frowned at her even further. What was her problem? "Anyways, you must be new in town since I've never seen you."
