"SO HARDWARE?" Roman asked the purple haired girl as they walked down the street.
"Yeah, kind of. I just love to build things." Eve glanced at him.
"That's really cool. My friend, Hansel, also leans towards that side."
"And what about you?"
"Me?" he pushed his glasses towards his face, "Software. I enjoy programming the most."
"And the loopy one?" she twirled her finger around her ear.
"Loon?" he let out a short laugh at the gesture, "Programming too, but he's really more of a jack-of-all-traits, if you ask me. Probably what makes him seem a little... nuts?"
"Wow."
They both laughed. A few cars passed by either direction before they could cross and continued down the road."Here." Eve pointed to the house they were now in front of.
They stopped in front of the door, Roman standing behind her.
"Thanks for the company." she turns to him and he smiled.
"No worries. So, see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah. See you."
Roman, feeling nervous for reasons he was not entirely sure of, unconsciously took a step back, causing his foot to slip on the edge of the step he stood on and his balance crumbled as gravity tugged his back forcing a "Whoa!" to escaped his lips. Waving his arms around in hopes to restore his footing and not be embarrassed in front of the new girl, he managed to jerk himself forward. He was no longer falling backwards. He was now falling forward.
His palms landed on both sides of the door’s frame.
Opening his eyes, his pulse altered. His coal coloured eyes were locked and piercing into her emerald-green ones. With her back pressed hard against the door, their faces were a mere inch or so apart as the earth stilled and paid attention. There was no howl of the wind, no chirp of the birds, just two uneasy heartbeats, almost echoing one another…Romans glasses slid down his nose and bumped into hers and the trance was broken. It was like hitting the play button.
"Oh..." waltzed off his tongue, "Sorry. I wasn't-".
"I-It's um... it’s fine." a burning shade of red, independent of her will, was smudged across her cheeks, growing ever brighter the harder she pushed it down.
She's like a rainbow, Roman thought, Purple, green, red.The door she leaned on suddenly gave way and she hit the cold, hard floor with a loud thud causing her insides to vibrate.
"Ouch…" she groaned.
"Are you okay?" Roman's voice called.
Blinking a few times her vision adjusted. She saw Roman, his face engraved with concern as his extended hand was offered to her. She looked into the house at the other figure that loomed over them. It was a tall, slim older guy. His hair was a pure black but his eyes were a remarkable green.
"Oh, hi Eve." He smirked.
"Doyle." she said taking Roman's hand and getting to her feet.
"Sup?"
"Nothing."
"Who's he?" he grinned.
"This is Roman, a friend." She gestured, "Roman, this is my obnoxious older brother, Doyle."
"Uh… Hi." Roman raised his hand in greeting. Doyle nodded then looked at his sister.
"A friend, huh?"
"Yes, a friend." she repeated in an annoyed tone.
"Alright, if you say so." he shrugged his shoulders then walked further indoors, "Nice to meet you, friend Roman."
"Thanks...?"
Eve rolled her eyes and groaned.
"What was that about?"
"Just Doyle being Doyle." she said with a sigh.
As Roman was processing a response the headache began to kick in through the fizzling effects of the meds.
"Anyways, I should really get going."
"Alright. See you around, Rome." she waved her hand as he furthered from the house. He simply waved back before she shut the door.Felling eyes burning through the back of her skull, she spun around.
"What?"
"What?" Doyle, seated on the arm of the couch echoed with a shrug before biting into an apple.
"You opened the door on purpose."
"Of course I did." he bit his apple more, "That's what you do when you hear someone at the door, right?"
"I know your were peeking through the window. You saw me leaning on the door."
"You saw me see you?" he gulped his chewed food.
"I remembered."
"Should have seen that one coming." he sighed with a smile.
"I will get you for this." a fiendish smile played on her lips.
