It had been 40 minutes into the flight. I was looking down at the clouds below us. They Were nothing like I Imagined. They looked like Soft pillows. The song 'hoax' by Taylor swift was now being sung in my ears. I looked back inside the plane. Everyone seemed to have moved on with their own lives. But I caught the glimpse of a girl staring at me. She was about my age. Dark hair, honey golden eyes and small pink lips parted as in awe.
She had a blank expression on her face. But her eyes told a different story. It was as if she knew me but at the same time we were seeing each other for the first time. As if She knew everything about me but at the same time she wondered if I was human. As if she loved me with all her being but at the same time she'll stab a thousand daggers in my body without regrets. I gave her a weak smile. She gasped loudly and quickly looked away. I thought she was embarrassed by getting caught for Staring, so I just looked down.
There were Still 20 hours left before I stepped on the land of my dreams. The thought alone made me so excited that I almost squeaked. To pass time, I took out the book I bought at the airport while roving before I irresponsibly went to sleep. The title on the cover read 'Roses and Thorns'. Strangely, the Author's name was not written. I casually turned the book around looking for the author's name, but there was none. The hard cover was bewitching. Fully black with light shade of violet on the upperside. While, dark red thorned roses grew from the bottom. The silhouette of a breathtakingly beautiful Castle adorned the background.
I traced the outline of the slightly raised roses & their thorns on the cover with the tip of my fingertip. It felt magical. It felt like I knew this feeling. It felt like I knew the castle. I raised the cover with my other hand while Still stroking it with another. There was no table of contents or an introduction or a note from the author. The book just started. I looked at the first page with confusion for a few seconds. My eyes read the length of the page and the small letters that were printed beautifully on the crisp page, then went back to the first letter. I started reading.
"Long time ago, in a world beyond the grasp of humanity, hidden deep inside the murky forest of Blisten, was the land of Zänger. A land full of magic and happiness. The king... "
I didn't even realize that 5 hours have passed by. The book was not yet finished. I closed the book and looked up yawning. I needed to stretch. So I got up. I unintentionally looked towards the way of the girl who was staring at me. But she was not at her seat. I wondered where she could've gone to but gave up pretty soon when I couldn't find her within my vision. I turned back to my seat to the woman beside me staring at me with judge filled eyes. I gulped. I didn't do or say anything. Why's she looking at me like that?
I felt her stare piercing me. Tearing me apart limb by limb from the death stare. But I didn't dare for the life of me look at her. 'I downloaded some movies and shows before boarding' I suddenly remembered. I briskly took my phone out from my pocket and started a movie without deciding. The movie ended in around 3 hours and I thought she might have given up staring at me. I casually turned my head towards her but to my misfortune, she was still staring.
"I...I am...Can I..." I blundered.
She just gasped and retreated back a little.
"Can I help you?" I said softly. Hoping she wouldn't hear if I spoke quietly. But she did."What...What were you doing?" Words escaped her mouth as knives. She hada gloomy voice.
"I was just...just watching a movie. Why?"
"No...not that...before that you were..."
"I was reading a book...ma'am do you need-"
"I see...a book you say? What is the name?"
"Roses and Thorns...ma'am. Why?" I have this stupid habit of calling every unknown elder person sir or ma'am. It's just involuntary.
"Cause I...I don't... I don't see...see a book"
