Chapter 5 - Joining the team

A step forward.

Too fast for their eyes to see.

3rd POV

Hinata stood in front of the school gym doors along with his friends. "You ready hinata?" They asked before opening the doors. Hinata gave a slight nod and they all walked in. At this point hinata had grown quite a bit, and was no longer a lot shorter than his friends, in fact he seemed to be catching up with them in terms of height.

"You're late!" The captain exclaimed as he walked to the trio. "Sorry captain!" They all said in unison bowing slightly. At this point something caught the captains eye, a tuft of ginger hair was standing in the distance. "Is that..?" The captain trailed off, eyes fixated on the person in the distance. "Yes captain! He said he wanted to try out!" The blocker said a bit of pride slipping into his voice. The captain was stunned for a moment but quickly smiled and said "we'd be glad to have you!" As he walked towards the ginger and reached out his hand. "I'm the team captain, my name's Ley, it's nice to meet you..." since the captain didn't know his name there was a short awkward pause before Hinata added" Shoyou Hinata", Just call me Sho like the trio does he said with a slight grin.

Alright Sho, it's nice to have you on the team. Before introductions, from what I gathered last time you've played volleyball before. What position did you have?

"Middle blocker..." he said looking to the side with an unreadable face and his usual dull eyes.

"Huh?!" The whole team shouted at once, confused, since they thought he must've been a libero because of his height.

"I guess that makes sense considering your speed and jump... you could keep up with most spikes with that much speed."

Hinata continued "I was also the team decoy, what I lived to do was spiking, me and... one of my teammates were known for our freak toss and spike."

"Could you spike for us Sho?" The captain asked with a friendly smile. Sho still didn't show any emotions so they couldn't read whether he was excited or not.

"Sure" he eventually responded bluntly as he walked to one side of the net. "Who'll toss?"

"I will," a boy with light brown eyes and dark-blueish hair, bordering on black said as he picked up a volleyball and walked up to Shoyou. "Name's Mike, I'm the main setter, nice to meet you", he said in a straightforward tone. "Nice to meet you too," Hinata said calmly.

Everyone went quiet when Hinata spoke next. "Mike, can you toss as fast as you're able to please?" Mike wasn't sure what to do and looked to his captain, no one has been able to keep up with his fast tosses, so he stopped using them. "Are you sure?" He asked hesitantly.

"Yeah, don't worry, I'm sure." Hinata gave him a forced but reassuring smile.

"Ehm, okay, but I recommend you look at it first in order to see the speed it will come at, before you try spiking it."

"Sure, just toss."

At his comment Mike tossed the fastest he could and within the blink of an eye, there was Hinata, his hand forward and the sound of a ball hitting the floor. "What just happened?" You could hear the others murmur. The ball had gotten to the other side so quickly that the others hadn't even seen the spike. "Is that kind of speed even possible?!" The libero shouted excited. "You're awesome Sho!".

Hinata, indifferent as always, just thanked him and then turned to Mike, "you have a good toss, it's better than the ones I've had to spike before, quicker and stronger too. I like it." Mike was still in shock, 'there's someone who can hit my fast toss' was all he could think.
