Le Bernardin Restaurant, 51st Street, circa 2012

(Outside the restaurant, later into Saturday night)

Manik Malhotra

Urghh. This is so infuriating! Why is Nandini so irritating, what does she want? I kept asking myself as I stared into the night, standing outside the restaurant. After our 'bat sh*t crazy' dinner party, which ended with Mukti and the Murthy boy walking out hand in hand for a stroll, I was left behind with Nandini here.

Awkward, much?

It felt strange to be this awkward around this tiny little idiot, and her mood swings were giving me a whiplash; first she ignored me like she & I don't exist in the same universal plane, then she waltz into my dinner date with my sister and her boyfriend and called me a sore lose because I lost one silly match against AK in my whole f*ucking life! Also, Arya? Would it kill her to call him by his full name, so much familiarity? Arya, my foot!

And now, as I glanced at her, she is standing on the pavement, right beside me looking straight ahead; back to giving Manik the cold shoulder, are we?

"Erm..ahem" I cleared my throat to draw her attention, but she kept looking everywhere, but me.

"Uh ahem" I tried one more time. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I give a flying f*ck about her, but I had f*cked it up enough for Mukti already, and the last thing I wanted to be roped in with was, leaving the Murthy boy's 'oh-so-lovely' sister stranded in the middle of the night in NYC where she might get murdered by some street mobs or something!

"Hmm..Umm..eh" I was wondering how to frame my sentence, when I saw her sigh a little before opening her clutch and hunting for something inside.

"You're looking for something?" I asked. Wow, what a conversation starter! Of course she's looking for something, why else would she scurry into her purse suddenly? Purse, clutch whatever this shiny metallic bag is called by girls - what's the difference anyway? Never mind.

"Cough Lozenges. Your continuous uhs & ahems are annoying me" she replied swiftly, breaking my flow of thought.

Excuse me?!

"Hello Madam, I was just trying to be decent. I was waiting for your ride to come, so that once you leave, I can leave too" I told her firmly. What's with the attitude, man?

"Decent and you? What a joke" I heard her murmur under her breath, not looking at me. This woman could infuriate me to no end!

"Look here Nandu.." I began, only to be cut short by her.
